NSX
Its balanced, comfortable and more practical. I havent driven a Viper but I can guess what its like based on other similar vehicles. I prefer something less crude.
I prefer a Samurai sword over a sledgehammer.

Had a Gen II 00 GTS, great car..........take an NSX over it? Never.
Would also pick the SRT over the NSX.
Would most likely pick the Z06 over any of them.
500hp Corvette...Porsche what?

yeah right - its a shame that GM builds the C6 and then gives it the same steering wheel as in a Malibu.
But back to the real discussion. I'd go for the NSX hands down. As the articles scanned in earlier in the thread refering to Senna and the NSX showed, the NSX was way ahead of its time. On today's roads and conditions in there any real use for 500+ hp in a Dodge! It may look good on paper and when hustled through the cones ny MotorTrend might perform well, but it lacks the balance, neutrality, poise, and fit and finish the comes with an NSX. Hand Crafted, Hand stitched leather cockpit vs. some bullsht Dodge ripped out of a Neon or something. Styling that is timeless - although in all honesty the Dodge does look good - however, the Dodge's lines dont exude a exotic car flair. The NSX's powerplant yield a sonorous banshee like VTEC wail at redline, and shifting through a honda shifter is always a joy.
And then there's the NSX impeccable reliabilty and stronger resale value. To the guy who said "V10 vs V6"
for Viper vs. NSX,
I say "In the shop vs. On the Road"

Heres My Take
The Viper is the Modern Version of the American Muscle car, designed by Dodge and Caroll Shelby, and built up to the modern day.... compaired to the NSX, which is Japans Answer to Ferrari..... The vipers made to have Earth Shattering HP and Tourque in a small car, compaired to the NSX, which is all about handeling...

I had a 00 GTS and the car was flawless, it never went to the dealer for any problems.
Would it be "just" as reliable as a Honda.....probably not. But a Porsche wouldn't either, Ferrari, Lambo, etc.
The most exciting cars in the world are not the most reliable.
IMO, the NSX is old an busted looking......I don't give a fuck how well it still performs.

This kinda stuff infuriates me. Until you actually own one of these cars vishnus11, don't comment on their reliability. My '00 RT/10 has just under 30k miles and has never had a problem. In fact, there are a couple of '93 gen I's around Austin with around 70k miles and have only had tune ups-and trust me, they are not driven softly!!
If you actually looked at the resale value, you would know that the Vipers hold their value incredibly well-better than the NSX. Hell, finding a 93-94 with low miles and clean title is almost impossible.
Lesson for today, DON'T SAY SH!T ABOUT A CAR YOU'VE NEVER OWNED!!

Just think, peeps lease $35k TL's for roughly $500 a month for 38 months-that is $20k. So for an extra $10k, you can get a NSX. Cars are an expense that is a depreciating asset.
So, say you finance the said car for 72 months. With rough calculations, not including interest etc., you would have a payment of about $1250 with nothing down. Now, after 36 months, you have paid $45k towards your $90k note. With any luck, after those 36 months, you could get maybe $50k in trade-in. So, with a pay-off of $45k, you walk away with $5k. However, since you made $45k in payments, you are actually still paying $10k more for the same car. Your choice, but I would rather spend $30k and "have nothing at the end" then spend $45k and make $5k at the end.

now the viper....an neighbor owns an R/T 10 with about 40K miles and though he loves it, he claims of problems with burnt clutche, poor shift linkage, rattles, and poor fit and finish. Sure it has raw power, but its quality and reliabilty cannot compare to that of an NSX. When comapring the two cars NSX vs. Viper in terms of reliabilty, the NSX wins hands down.

and if u check the resale values on Viper vs. NSX...,i believe NSX is higher. I did comparison kelley blue book for 1992 viper and nsx. and from what ive seen in my local autotrader, prices for NSX are always higher than for a comparable viper.
1998 NSX vs Viper. Over a $11000 differnce in resale value. lesson for day: make sure u knoiw what your talking about before posting.

P.S.
I think I got the current value of a 98 viper to be around 30K. Assuming base price of 66,000 .... 30000/66000 = 0.455 - about 45% of original value
For the 98 NSX i got aroung 42K. Assuming base price of 84000...42000/84000 = 0.5 = 50% of the original value.
Thus resale value for the NSX is more. Enough lessons learned.
Bottom Line: Both are pretty darn nice cars...pick which ever suits u and ur driving style best

Ask all the people who bought CLs and now they aren't worth jack shit.
I bought the STi and leased the M3, been leasing for years and no regrets. Some of us don't want to keep cars for more than 30-36 months.

Looks like the percentage of retained value is better for the Viper. I would take the NSX over the Viper; however, the Viper's value holds pretty well.

I should also add that I am currently in the market for an NSX and am finding the prices are lower than what KBB, NADA, etc. are putting them at. The Vipers are closer to the indicated market values.
Of interesting note, it appears there are more higher mileage NSX's out there than Vipers. That could be an indication that the NSX is easier to live with on a day to day basis. Or it could mean that Viper owners are scared to drive their cars.

The C6 Z06 will be a tamed beast when you want it to be.
