guys... the real story is that they were trying to simulate 1/4 mile run.

The r32 is awd so when the guy dumped the clutch at over 3000 rpm... too much traction occured and the rears tore loose.

The owner was warned that the car could come off the machine.

Well that's even dumber than someone not securing the car properly. Why would you try to simulate a quarter-mile run on a dyno?

Would that have something to do with unequal power being delivered to the rear wheels? It must be hard to dyno an AWD car because the center differential would take a beating if the front and rear wheels are moving at different speeds. I don't know how you would compensate for that.

i think it was just a matter of putting down too much torque at one instant. dyno rollers are not exactly as grippy as asphalt. its not a problem for a dyno run because you gradually build up speed so the rollers already have some momentum.

i have seen a 700whp car breaking traction on a regular dyno run though. it would build up speed and then the tires would start spinning faster than the dyno could handle.

it was secured. but the guy running said that the staps might not hold... sure enough they didn't.

why ask why? because.... that's why.

i think most dynos CANNOT handle a dump clutch situation. they are designed to start off moving slowly then build up over time.

i posted that the whole thread is on vwvortex.com.

don't have the link but it's pretty easy to find. i agree it was a dumb move but how else are you suppose to find out if something works the way it is intended unless you test.

Why are you defending these morons so hard? Were you part of the crew?

Test?? Yea, it looks like they had quite a controled test going there. Im sure they might have expected that to happen

Sorry, but this rates right up there with "Hey! Watch this!"

Anyway, why do people go to dynos anyway?

Nope...

I was laughing my ass off when i saw this. Thinking... what dumbasses.

Then I read what actually happened and thought ok... what dumbasses.

I just find it funny when people assume something and it's not the case. So i get a kick out of that as well.

I think we all assumed that A) These guys have never used a dyno before and B) They didnt know what was about to happen as a result.

So, how was that assumption not the case?

A dyno is used to measure HP and Torque, not 1/4 mile runs...

i'd have to say the owner of the car must be a moron as well to let anyone do that to your car. lets see, take a car, put it 10ft from a wall, attach 2 straps to the back and do a clutch drop... hmmmm, good idea!
