What to get?

Hey AZ,

Another help me thread. I'm debating purchasing a new(er) car.

I just got a condo w/my gf, it would be nice to have an SUV but it's not a total necessity. I like MDX a lot, I love Lexus GS's, don't want a 3g TL, TSX is too small....I'm 6'4 so size is a biggie also. I drive about 20 miles to work so gas mileage is somewhat a factor.

Right now I'm kind of torn between a 01-04 GS430 or a 04-05 MDX. I'd like to keep my sale price under $15K. I've also looked at a few 05-06 G35's.

I found a 02 GS430, black/black, 64K miles, NAV, Mark Levinson, 17" alloys, no spoiler...$13,800. Car looks mint, waiting for a reply from the selling dealer. I might make a trip to Chicago to look at it.

We do live in a snow filled climate so yes, AWD in MDX would be nice but I don't mind throwing some snows on the GS430 / G35 / other RWD models.

What do you guys think? Any other suggestions?

If a TSX is too small for you then a G35 will be as well. My dad has a 05 G35x and I think it's tiny on the inside, and I'm only 5' 11".

Have you thought about an Audi A6? BMW 5-series? I think there are a bunch of options in that price range, you've just gotta narrow it down to what you really like and what you don't like so we can help out more

How about an FX35 for an SUV type or a Q45 sedan? Both of those should have enough room and a good amount of comfort. But neither offer great gas mileage.

i was going to say that to find a GS in that price range will be high mileage or in an accident...

if you live in areas of really bad snow, stay away from the GS, it sucks in the snow... even with snow tires will barely get u around...

He is going to have an impossible time finding a FX for under $15k.

Impossible to find an FX for such a price, and if I go the SUV route I think I'd rather have an MDX, it's a lot bigger on the inside.

The Q is on my list, it gets 25 mpg hwy. I had one before and I really like the ride..Plus you can get some pretty low mileage 02-04's for my price range.

I don't mind a GS with 100K or so miles, and I drove my GS400 through the winter with no snows on...with snows, it can conquer anything!

I'm not really in a hurry, the TL is fine and drives great. I'm going to be keeping my eye out for any good deals. The used car market is pretty high right now, hoping it'll settle a little by middle of winter.

I've had quite a few G35's as demos when I was working for a dealer, I fit in those much better than TL/TSX for some reason. With the acura's, my right knee is almost in the radio with the seat all the way back. I think that's why I like the MDX/SUV's so much, there isn't that issue.

I know the FX will be a stretch. How about a Murano or a Pilot?

I think I might add 07-09 Camry 4cyl to the mix. 31mpg hwy and they're quite roomy. The SE's look pretty good with the ground effects and nicer alloy wheels.

Yes, I agree with what you said, however at less than a $15K budget you might be hard pressed to find one in good condition.

I would say go for a 06~07 Honda Accord Sedan V6.

^I'm a bigger fan of the Camry over Accord.

Found a 09 Camry SE with 23K miles for $15990 about an hour north of here. Waiting for a reply.

On a side note, how cool is this thing?!

Camry or GS. Pre-2007 MDX looks like a soccermom-mobile

I quite like the GS. But, if you're looking for practicality and space...the MDX is terrific.

The Camry seems to make a lot of sense for you.

I agree but with some step bars and a spoiler, it looks okay

That's what it comes down to. Maybe I can pass on the MDX to the gf in 3 years (if I get one) and get myself a 06-08 GS430

It does, but it lacks the pizazz. I'll go drive one and see how it feels. i found a 07 SE with a MT that I might go check out. 34mpg.
