What do you think of STI Limited

I am in the market for a new car in the next 4 months. I have a 04 6MT TL right now. What do you guys think of the STI Limited. Any experiences with Subaru and /or the STI? I have always been a honda/acura guy, but have heard such great raves about the all wheel drive, and the power on the sti.

Eh... Take a look at the Legacy GT spec B, STI's are a bit ricey IMO.

I think the STI limited is a de-riced version.

I would consider it, the Legacy GT is a really nice car also. But I really really like the new IS.

It is a great car, limited production of about 800 in each of two colors. So I would think it might be hard to get. Yet, saw a new one go on ebay for 32K which I thought was a great price. New hatchback model around this time next year or so… Sounds like you don’t keep them that long so that may not be an issue. TL drives great 0- 8 tenths of capabilities. Subaru STI drives great 6-10 tenths.

I am looking into it for the power obviously, and looks like it could be a better overall car than the TL for a cheaper monthly payment.

i've been thinking about purchasing an STI limited or a legacy GT.

i like the STI for it's overall performace, but it deffinitly does not have the refinements of the GT. the GT does come in spec B form, but for the money to be paid for the spec B in which the interior is a bit different and an upgraded suspension is not worth it to me. for the money you save buying a GT over the spec b you can make it out handle a spec B.

also the money saved on the GT you can also make it handle as well as if not better then the STI. both the STI and GT share the same block, the differences are the heads, turbo, and intercooler and how it is hooked up. but the GT can be on par with the STI's if not better in some instances.

i would go STI limited if you like the attention you get from it, but i would go GT if you want stealth and aot more refinement. both cars have strong aftermarket, more so the STI. check out legacygt.com and maybe that will help if your thinking about a GT

and yes i have made my choice and it will be a GT in the next 4-5 months or so if i have things in order at the time and i will be going with TDC's twinscroll kit. mattg if your around you know what i'm talking about mmm gt30r...

actually the legacy has the exact same engine bottom and top end. only difference is the turbo (bigger), intercooler (smaller), fuel pump (larger) i think, and intake manifold and of course the tranny.

I definitely vote for the lgt over the sti. how do you go from a tl to an sti? everyone will be trying to race you. lgt is a sleeper out of the box. not to mention upgrades. the car is a blast to drive. cops dont think twice when you drive past, and insurance is much cheaper on a lgt then sti.

i'm also liking TDC's possible twinscroll setup. 350+/350+ to the wheels for 3-4K equals deal! super sleeper=priceless

I am almost 29 but I still think I am 21 so I would not mind if everyone wanted to race me.LOL. As for me having a TL, I did a lot of modifications to it already. Plus when I was looking this was the only car that had the speed I wanted with a lot of space. I am in a band and at the time had very large equipment. I slimmed down my equipment so I am not concerened about trunk space any longer.

So the GT is the way to go then it seems. I guess you can do a lot of modifications to it to make it a sleeper car. Am I understanding correctly. I just feel like these cars are all over the road just like a TL. I wanted a change from that.

I literally driven hundreds of subaru's and while they are getting better, a subaru is a very distinct car to drive. The sounds they make, from engine, to door closing its a very unique feeling/sounding automobile. Some like it, or don't notice it other's don't like it. I just never liked it, there is nothing wrong with them, they just are not as "nice" as current acura's -IMO.

The STI limited is very conservative looking........no more outrageous looking than the Legacy.

Has silver wheels, black Brembo calipers (not gold), no STI large wing or top rear window splitter.

Just know that a redesign is coming soon.

STI Limited is a very good choice. A all year around car and not too shabby.

Thanks for telling me. I hate to buy a car when the redesign comes out a few months later. Any word on a new body style for STI?

I pick Legacy over limited. If you want something quick and decent interior than check out GT. STi is overrated!! You can get the wrx and do some mod and here and there, it will be same or even powerful than sti.

The STI is not overrated, what are you kidding?

Great, buy a WRX and dump cash into.....tha makes lot's of sense. You'll still be looked at like the guy who couldn't afford the STI.

The STI is fast from the factory, along with many other exclusive parts to it like Brembos.

Not to mention, the STI holds its value much better than any WRX will.

To the OP, the current Impreza is on its way out.....new one should be out either in 08 or 09.

you are 100% right about the interior. acura def has a leg up on subaru, but the lgt definitely has a nice interior. nicer then a 99tl, but not the new tls or tsx.

you get all the creature comforts you need. i love that i have power seats all around while my friends 325xi bmw only has it for the driver.

i love honda as well, but man the awd, 2.5 boxer engine, and turbo is retardily fun to drive. if acura turbo's the tsx and gives it awd...houston we have a problem although i'm sure it would throw the price over even a spec b lgt.

to original poster yeah very little mods = awesome results
less then 2k will get you in the 12s with bolt ons and no turbo upgrade if you dont mind being a little rough on the clutch.

go test drive one if you haven't already. just dont let the salesperson see the massive smile on your face. and because of the turbo you really should get a manual. the lgt was my first manual car as well. little tricky to get used to becuase of the electronic throttle, turbo, and dual mass flywheel, but after that its fun fun fun. i made my friend let me drive his bmw for a week or two before i picked up the lgt. best decision i ever made besides my 1st gen cl back in the day.

peace
