What do you think of the Saturn Sky?
What do you think of the Saturn Sky?
I will start out by saying that I've always been biased against American cars. In general, I think they look ugly, break down easily, and just inferior to Japanese and European cars.
But lately there's an American car that's making me look twice, and to my surprise now I'm actually toying with the idea of getting it. As the title suggests, it's the Saturn Sky. I like the exterior styling of the Sky a lot, but what made me seriously consider this car is after seeing the interior. For example, the Pontiac Solstice is basically the same car as the Sky, but its cheapo plastic interior is making me turn away from it. At least from the initial pictures, it looks like the Sky's interior will do no wrong for an Acura owner like me.
So far I've only been seduced by her looks, inside and out. But overall would she be a good car to have?

Thats why they are making two.
The Sky is very miata like inside.
The Solsticie is very driver-centric. Minimal and functional.
I like the exterior of both... Sky is more Edgy, Solstice is more classy.

Sky has the mean look with the eye catching interior. Must better detail to it.

Auto Top
I finally got to see the Solstice in Detroit a few weeks ago....and I agree that the Sky and Solstice is a good step in exterior design direction for GM.
I know they wanted to hit the <20K price point on the Solstice...but the dealbreaker for me...and I imagine many others is that it is a manual canvas top...with no option for auto top.
Does the Sky have an auto top? If so...that would be a big plus for the Saturn. Here in Florida...it can be raining on one side of the road and sunny on the other (expecially our daily summer afternoon storms). Trying to stop and put up a top would drive me crazy...

Thanks for bringing up the question of auto top. Since I've never owned a convertible, this is exactly the kind of issues I would not have thought of myself.
I guess what hasn't really been answered yet is the question of reliability. Is it really that bad? Having owned only Toyotas and Hondas, I probably take some things for granted like good reliability. What are some other things I need to watch out for in a GM?

I love the solstice! Now that they are getting a good turbo motor in it I like it even better.
There is a company dropping LS2's into them
yeah, saw a Solstice on the road the other day... definitely caught my eye. The wife knows I've been thinking convertible for the next car... so she looked at me and said... why don't you get one of those!! Surprised me. The only Pontiac I had was a Sunfire GT back in 1995, and, I won't lie... I loved it. Handled great, sounded nice, never had one single problem with it.
With the 260hp version due out later this year... who knows. We'll see what the resale is like... if they can be had cheap, may think about it.....
