What do you guys think of the Audi TT?

Safety Car
March 2000 and the decision was between the CL-S and Audi TT. Had a 30 minuet test drive in the TT in the mountains above Pasadena, CA. I LOVED that car. Problem was I tend to keep cars for 10+ years, scratch the Audi. Sure was a fun car to drive before they had the recall and changed the steering arm ratio to protect people from themselves! Still look longingly at them on the road.

my dad has a tt fwd and its a pretty fun car to drive compared to the cl. But Im not a very bug guy 5'10" 210lbs and it feels tight for me. And my dads is the hard top so it hard a rear seats which in a sense are pretty useless.

Fun to drive the quattro model.
BUT...even an honest audi service dept will tell you they are one of the most unreliable cars in the line up.

Three Wheelin'
i havent driven a 1.8t but I have driven the 3.2DSG roadster with S-line pacakge quite extensively. One word - amazing. I loved it. I think that that particular engine/transmission combo is one of the best i've driven hands down. The tranny shift so smoothly and seemless, and the engine is so eager to rev, and has torque pretty much everywhere in the rev range. Shifting teh DSG gearbox is a blast! The s-line package adds stiffer suspension, bodykit, and 18inch rims among other things. Even with the 18s and low profiles, the ride was pretty damn good, with only severe potholes causing jarring impacts - Idrove the thing to Canada from PA and found it 2 be an excellent cruiser. Last but not least, i think regular TTs look "girly" but trust me with teh S-line package, this thing is transformed into a muscular, sexy looking beast (at least IMHO).
The only negatives I can think of are audi's reputation for bad reliabilty - this particular vehicle was puchased new and had 15k HARD HARD miles on it, and had zero problems, but maybe that was just luck. Not 2 mention that scheduled service is covered for 4yr/50k miles, so u pretty much dont pay a cent out of pocket. Another problem is that its pricey (48k). And lastly, it HEAVY - it corners well, but u defintely feel the mass when haulin ass.

Advanced
My father-in-law (FIL) bought a 2001 TT AWD Quattro Convertible. I find the car quick, tight, and responsive. A lot of fun as a second car, but I can't imagine it as an everyday car. It is also the only AWD convertible that isn't a 911. Unfortunately, a couple of years into it, the temp sensor kept false alerting an over-temp situation. Had to replace the entire instrument cluster. I don't recall what he spent, but it was over a grand. Last year, the same issue resurfaced. The dealership told him to "pound sand" when he asked that they cover all of some of the repair. This is the same dealership that had no problem selling him that TT and an A8L on the same day. Four years later he traded that fantastic A8 in for a VW Phaeton (Audi). The dealership knows this and is still so short-sighted to expect him to again pay $1K+ for the TT cluster. Suffice to say in a few years, he won't have an Audi product on the garage. Shame. When they work, they are nice.

I would love to see a solstice interior done more upscale...to me that is the perfect roadster interior right now.

The solstice is very minimalist, very classic, very driver oriented. Just needs a little higher quality materials.
I'd still buy one the way it is right now.
