What car would you replace your 3G with for $15K?
Since I'm the Infiniti nerd, just wanted to input that the sedan V36 G35 was 2007-2008, G37 was 2009, and then it had MMC updates in 2010; G35x/G37x has the ATTESA AWD that people swear by. 2010 and up would be a good bet since I prefer the restyled look (same as the new Q40s) and you would have the newer navigation, etc. I had people when I was at the dealership that were anywhere from their 3rd to 5th G. Backseat isn't awful since me and the sales guys would have to get in when we would move cars back and forth, and the maintenance is probably what you do in your TL, mainly just oil changes and tire rotations. VQ uses a timing chain too so you don't have to change a belt like on J engine. FX35 would be pretty high mileage for a 2009+ model since they hold their value almost too well. G37 made Edmunds Used Car Best Bets too: 2012 Used Car Best Bets

This would keep a TL for the fam car and he would have a little more fun. This is obviously just my 2c and i'm going strictly off the 15k number. You could have a lot of fun in an MS6 and 5k in mods. Trust me.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Yeah, this car is going to be for my wife who lugs around our 5 month old and 2 year old more often that I do. With that said, modding for this car will be a bare minimum. I can't say the same for my 3G TL but almost know for sure that I won't be doing anything to the wife's car. The only "upgrade" that I would do for sure is replacing the air filter with a K&N. haha

Simple really.
Generally speaking, Mustangs are not cars people really drive in the winters, generally speaking ofcourse. They get babied and sleep in garages all winter long. If we are talking stock, no tunes? Most mustangs have more torque than a 335i, hit the gas at the wrong time/turn and your tail end goes flying which is another reason why most wouldn't drive them in the winter. Also a 335i has better handling, and is a more comfortable daily driver. So even though they are both Rwd cars, the 335i is a more suitable DD/all season car... & 09 and up, you can get the 335i in awd so....
It was all just a suggestion, but i would stop at a stage 1 jb4 tune on the 335i, anything higher and you should be upgrading suspension and brakes to handle the power so no, it wouldn't climb to 400hp+. I simply made the suggestion cus.. well.. why not? 50 more hp for ONLY 500 bucks? Thats an insane deal, might as well get it.
Anyway, we all know what maintenance on a bimmer can be, i only brought it up because the OP mentioned he wanted performance & luxury like the TL. The is350 & g35 are great options too and are just as quick below 60mph if we talking stock. The 335i only outshines both when you start modding cus of that n54.
Clearly you've never heard of traction control either. As soon as that ass starts to come out, throttle gets cut. Just the same it does in a 335.
Clearly you haven't heard of the advancements Ford has made on the Mustang, in terms of suspension. It may not be no 335, but for the last 5 years, they've been VERY capable cars. Unless OP is driving balls-to-the-wall, he likely would never see the difference either (again, assuming that's NOT what he's buying this car for).
More comfortable daily driver? Based on what? Jesus, man. Clearly you've never driven either.
You also never mentioned the 335xi, but rather, the 335i, which is NOT AWD. The xi is also much more expensive than the i.
OP also never mentioned anything about tuning potential. Sounds to me like he is looking for a reliable, daily driver. Nothing more, nothing less. I myself wouldnt bother buying a 5 year old BMW, because, well, BMW. Pay 15k now, pay another 6k in maintenance over the next 2 years.
I'm not advocating the OP should buy a mustang, but your arguments are the very epitomy of what people blab about on the internet without really knowing. A friend of mine who has owned his '06 G35 coupe with the sport package since new had a 5.0 V8 mustang as a rental car a few years ago while his G35 was getting repaired from a hit and run. He was seriously considering trading the G35 for the 5.0 because of how well it handled and how much power it put down. The only thing that ended up holding him back was the shitty interior materials that we wasn't fond of.
Personally, I'd advocate for a G37 for a nice DD.

lol, not the same as 335i? The previous gen Mustang GT was just as fast around a track as a E92 M3 which, I'm guessing, is faster than the 335i.
The current gen is faster still but neither are going to be ~$15k.
Either way, that guy is just a BMW fan boy and can't admit when his favorite car company has started to drop the ball. Happens all the time.

If not, just stick to the typical choices such as Accord and Camry.
Stupid response is stupid. Clearly you have never driven a Mustang. It's not like you tap the gas and the car starts doing 360s in the winter. Educate yourself first- I see PLENTY of mustangs on the roads during the winter. Maybe not insane modded ones, but they're all over the place. For 15k, you likely can't get an insane modded one either, unless buying something fairly old, which I'm guessing the OP has no interest in.

1. Personally i dont really see mustangs in the winter. I see them far more often in the summer. Read my posts, i used words such as "generally speaking", generally, most dont drive them in the winter. Gen-er-al-ly.
2. Ive been in an accident with a mustang. Wasn't driving, friend was. He was making a turn, the road was wet, as soon as he made it, we spun out, mounted the crub, hit a fire hydrant. Granted he didnt have the traction control on, which is great btw, it does cut the power, but your rpm still climbs regardless and when traction control gives you back power, if your rpm is still higher than your car is currently moving, the sudden push could be problematic. Still, its common sense that you take i easy on the throttle once traction control kicks in but i see what you mean.
3. When i say the 335 is a more comfy daily driver im talkin about how smooth it drives, how it maintains it at high speeds, how it rides over bumps and such without feeling it much, how easily it handles turns. The mustang is more of a performance vehicle, not saying you're in for a rough ride but the point of the car isnt exactly to be super smooth. Ive driven both, 08 mustang though, not sure about how they are now.
4. I know, but yea, the 335 still handles better, especially e90 and up.
5. He said performance like the TL, i made a suggestion, you took it more seriously than he did, surprisingly enough. I did admit bmws faults, but these are covered under warranty. I wouldn't get a bmw without warranty, that's just asking for problems.
You really feel like going back and forth? Lol i doubt the OP cares much for our posts anymore really, he's already decided on an infiniti.. I just feel like the 335i is probably the fastest/most luxurious all season vehicle u can get for 15k if you wish to tune it. If not, i suggested a g35 or a lexus is350, funny how people ignore that part of my post :/
Maybe even a Lexus, like an ES350. Reliable as hell, safe, many parts transfer over from the Camry so it is cheaper to fix, holds value well, etc...
Yes very true, except the fact that it is missing one of the most important requirement: it is a boat and OP wants something that is comparable with 3G TL....
Not exactly comparable to a 3G, or 15k, but a '13 Accord Sport may fit the bill nicely. It lacks some features, but it drives nice.

And as mentioned above while the ES350 does keep it's value, 15K may keep a lot of them out of reach.
The 3G gives me the right balance of performance and refinement, so we looking for the same thing. I do not mind having another 3G in the garage but just seeing if you all had any other models that would offer the same kind of balance our cars have.

I would save up a bit more and go Lexus as some others have suggested. Instead of an ES though, I would look for an 06-08 GS with low miles. If you get one that has all of the right packages, you end up with a car that has a little more room than the TL, decent gas mileage, and some of the most comfortable seats around.
The GS300 RWD with the heated and cooled seats is one of my favorite cars to be a passenger in and I'm guessing your wife likes the TL for it's comfort more than for sportiness. (That being said the GS is still pretty quick!)

Winter in Fort Worth. Bish, Texans can run summer tires year 'round.
I like the RL vote, but I'm biased. Make sure she tests drives the G. The VQ exhaust may not be the best for the babies.
They're also higher quality of build and materials than a 3G TL or other vehicles listed here.

I don't think the Accord Sport has dropped into the $15k range yet.
That said, if the OP bumped it up to $20k then I say go for it. Not the most powerful thing in the world nor the most feature laden but the wife and I enjoy our 14 Sport. It just needs the requisite TLX sway bar upgrade to enhance handling a bit, but it's a blast to drive.

2nd the 2G RL & G votes as well. Though I'm not the biggest Nissan fan, I've driven a few Gs & they're not too bad, not too loud for kids in the back seat.
