What was this BMW I saw?

Driving around Huntington Beach CA, I saw a BMW with Euro plates. Not just some idiot who stuck a Euro style plate on his bumper. The plate area on the trunk lid was sized for the wider plate. As I passed him on the right (he was stopped in a left hand turn lane) I tried to see the model. The sun was in my eyes but it looked like R35 or something. It was three characters at least. I guess it was about the size of a 3 series. What was it? Was it hot enough to take the effort to import?

The optional 6-speed close ratio transmission delivers the power band at the sweet spot all the time. A selection of suspension systems, including a front and rear height adjustable coil-over system, strengthens its presence. The big brake kit indulges you with more control. Our newest aggressive looking one-piece RD2 or three-piece RS2 wheels, together with the elegant "R35" aerodynamics series and 90 mm dual round tip exhaust system, enhance its understated presence. Now you can have the M3 performance in form of Sedan or Touring. Please see the full line of available options by BMW Series. Approximate conversion cost: $24,823.48

I like how the 'Approximate' cost is down to the penny.

So esentially, this conversion equates to an M3? Why would this be advantageous?

Could this be done to an Xi? I would love an M3 will AWD.
