2002 Audi A4 Chip

Q: My buddy is getting a 2002 A4 but doesn't want to spend the xtra $$ on the 3.0. Would like to get the 1.8t and chip it. I know u can get some great gains by chippin the 1.8. My ques is: What r some brands of a good chip set and how much r they? Also since the chip basically just ups the boost on the turbo is an intercooler needed?
Thanks for any help.

GIAC, APR, Neuspeed, Wetworks, Upsolute...

Most will go with an GIAC(garrets), APR, or Upsolute because Neuspeed and Wett's is more conservatively tuned...but I heard good things about GIAC...anyways you should go with a local tuner since they are readily accessible if something goes wrong...should cost around $300 dollars to chip...and most people do not get the intercooler but I dont know how that affects the performance of the upped boost on the turbo.

I wouldn't want to go with an very agressive chip, especially on a new Audi. I have heard good things about APR. Just remember that if he blows his turbos, he is out of luck. Audi of America won't cover it and neither will the chip maker. There are no sanctioned aftermarket tuners for Audis that I know of.

I would rather go with the 1.8t then the 3.0, because it has more aftermarket potential. I woudl also choose the Neuspeed chip, because they dont use as much psi as other chipmaker, and are about half the cost of others. The extra 10 horses you would get from the other ones, is because they ise over 1 bar of boost. Go to audiforums.com, and see what they say.

there are some good chips avaliable .nuespeed is a good one. or u can try some european chips such as (oginger <--forget how to spell it or abt)...
what the chips does is adjust the fuel and air ratio. increase the boost if turbo is avaliable.u will not need bigger intercooler. for the price.i would said around $250 ~$400

Turbo engine has greater tuning potentials and can generate many more hp than normally aspirated engine. All you need to do is to increase the boost pressure of the turbo charger by adjusting or replacing the wastegate or pop-off valve, such that higher pressure can be attained before the valve opens.
