Well...the S2000 needed more doors, more driven wheels, and a lot more torque...

And the Midget doesn't have AC.
Won't be a commuter in the blazing months, but it'll get some weekend morning drives

Isn't his a hard top? Not sure what it weighs, but might not be worth the hassle when it's eleventybillion degrees outside.

Just saying, I'd suck it up and leave the top up just to put some more miles on that S52.

Even the hottest months, you can do sunset cruises.

Gotta be sunrise cruises in the Midget. The candles in the Mason jars don't quite illuminate enough at night

Right but then you look like a douche canoe driving your convertible on a sunny day with the top up.

Just get a car that's not a convertible and call it good.

Good thing they make better headlights that you could swap in...

On my to-do list after mechanical fixes to get it back on the road reliably.

FWIW that's why I hated the convertible even here in MN, not because I couldn't drive it 6 months of the year.
This is my point. Top up, the Z is uncomfortable, down moving/when it is under 80, it's a joy. That is not until late September here.

So you too cannot comfortably use the convertible as a convertible for most of the year?

Because coupes are better, here's an excellent option: https://carsandbids.com/auctions/Kda...utm_campaign=n

as an only car, I wouldn't advise a convertible.
but as a weekend getaway car, it is second to none...sun on your face, music going, wind....
I love top down.

Based on the other two Z car owners on here, that seems pretty par for the course with a 25 year old BMW...

If you have 17 cars like you do then I would agree haha. I just have one fun car and wouldn't want that to be a convertible.

I still maintain that I will buy back my old S2k someday and keep it forever.

My convertible was an excellent only car for a long time. That being said, mine is a fold-able hard top, so it's very much like a coupe with the top up.

I shouldn't have sold it but my financial situation now is vastly different than it was when I sold it. If/when I get it back, I'll sock it away forever only to come out on nice days when the weather is ~75F and not blazing hot sun.

In the continuing saga of the M2 now it's leaking coolant lol. Thankfully still under dealer warranty so they paid to have it towed this morning and found out the aux radiator is leaking and needs to be replaced. This is now the THIRD TIME in 6 weeks it has gone back to them for some reason or another and I asked them for an extension to the warranty because this is ridiculous at this point.

I don't know how you German car owners do this...

Rear electronics module left the chat and failed rear tail light.

Modern BMW and Merc are nightmares, probably Audi as well.
B8.5 Audi is as modern as I'm interested in tinkering on...

I did all the research and there's not much for issues on the S55 engine and F87 model that are huge. The tail light thing sucks but it's a known issue and you can get a new one from FCP Euro with a lifetime warranty for like $250. Easy to replace, don't have to take apart trunk trim. That's what I'll do if/when the other side goes out.

Only issues I found are charge pipe leaking and crank hub issues, both of which are largely only a problem if your car is tuned and, this shouldn't come as surprise to any of you, mine is not. Rear module and radiator leak seem to be a fluke? Who knows, hopefully they'll extend the warranty.

The car is an absolute blast to drive though, it's a phenomenal machine.

Nah, ultimate is a stretch but it's pretty awesome for what my wallet can stomach.

In other news, the dealership has to order the radiator as it's not a stocked part. Should have the car back by Wednesday. Hopefully this is the end of all the BS and issues with this thing for a good long while.

Not being a part they stock is probably a good thing as far as it not being a normal failure...
OR it's so prone that they can't keep the rads in stock

They said that they typically will see a radiator leak in the front where a rock hits it but this was leaking in the back lower corner of it so who knows. The coolant looks pristine though lol.

Dang, what a pain! Sorry you’re going through all this, my neighbor had an M2 and he didn’t have any issues. Only “problem” was that a rock got somewhere around some heat shield and occasionally it would rattle, but we never found it… he isn’t one for keeping cars a really long time though. He had it maybe 1 year…

The only issues I've heard of with this platform revolve around tuned cars having issues with the crank hub and charge cooler but mine isn't tuned and never will be. Overall I've heard that the platform is pretty reliable so I'm hoping this is just a slew of bad luck that happened to coincide with the warranty period lol.
