I was just about to post this. It appears random, but I think it was a staged stunt. The truck starts smoking, diverting your attention from the trailer and then BOOM. The only thing I don't get is, if it is staged how did they get the 2x4 to strike at the right point? Camera trick?

Looks like the board was thown up,from the ground, by the left rear tire of the trailer directly in front of the car that was filming and struck by the board.
