I have the opportunity to pick one of these up.... 86 with broken odometer fairly good cosemetics, recent tune up, yada yada... I was wondering if anyone knew anything about these, things to look for, things to avoid etc. I need a good beater car, that is fairly reliable and for $500 the price seems right on this one. Thanks for the help guys!

 

I had an 84' model years ago. It was fun to drive but I had problems w/ the A/C, broke the shift mount once and rubber rings that hold up exhaust pipe kept breaking. Don't remember a whole lot more about it. But I would check www.vwvortex.com I'm sure you'll find everything you need there. Good Luck

 

My friend had one back when we were in the military, that was a real fun, fast car. I'd pick one up if I had the opportunity.

 

My wife had a 85', be afraid, be very afraid! On the other hand, if you complain about the rattles in a CL, this car will make you forget all about them. Do ear plugs come with the deal?
