(VIDS) me v. supercharged cl-s, me vs. 350z

All this talk of mods and hp for the money invested makes me glad I own a Mustang.
Maybe it's just me, as I'm sure it is, but why not just get a used LS1 Camaro or TA and have a low 13 second car bone stock. Leave the CL/TL to be the nice comfortable daily driver. RWD, solid axle, low tech cars are designed to go fast, and have the supporting strength to support crazy hp levels. The 5AT in the CL can barely take the stock hp level without taking a shit (or so it seems), and I'm sure the stock clutch and 6 speed aren't designed to run anything in the 13's. :o
Just my opinion.

The M3 launched well (sub 2.0s 60-foots) pulls 13.4s E.T's @ 106mph. It makes 280+ whp I believe.
I can totally understand a 13.78 or whatever that you ran @ 101-102mph - it hooked and your car makes power. A 13.1 is VERY difficult unless you somehow extract 40-50 more hp.

Besides, I had a V8 Muscle car that would rip my hands from the steering wheel, just about throw the passenger in the rear seat, you name it, but I still enjoy playing with my TLS . . .

I think some of the lower 13sec times are very optimistic. I do think that somewhere along the way, mid 13's for you guys are clearly achievable. I'd be happy to get the sedan to 13.99 in all honesty...

what about a coupe
Besides, no offense typeR, but you also live here in h=ll. It's way too humid/hot/generally crummy in the long run. It was like 81 degrees with 96% humidity at 9am this morning. My car felt like I filled the gas tank full of jello compared to last weekend when it was 67 degrees and 58% humidity...
I love the sun and fun but I wish winter would come so I can finally at least take it to the track for something moderately respectable...

I would still think Modaddicts 240hp SC TLS would pull on on Mike's car because the power gained on the SCed car is throughout the powerband not just peak hp. I know you know this allmotor and are just playing devil's advocate.

But... being the  during an 'acceleration' run, RPM's don't quite drop below 5K, so what does the power-band look in the 5K to redline region? Assume gearing and weight is the same - now it will really depend on who had what for lunch to make up for the 4hp difference

When I was pushing 270 WHP I was taching out 3rd 20'-25' before the finish line. So if u are pushing less than that, then u have a better chance keepign 3rd before the end. If not then I would recomend another 20WHP to have 4th in a decent RPM band before the end.

I use SS whenever I need to squeeze between two cars and don't want to rear end the car in front of me.

to run in the high 13's i think you would have to use 4th.

wtf
i doubt any auto cl-s can hold third, i still got plent of third left as i cross the traps, we trap at around 95-100ish, 3rd dont end till 110, unless your trapping at around 110 your ass is staying in 3rd gear
i dunno, is there sometin im missin, if u have more hp/trq do the gears end at a lower mph??

cuz i said so you post whore! Btw, i was trapping at 100mph and I was launching like your granny b/c of traction problems.

Trap speed is determined over the last 66 feet. The time to travel over that last 66 feet is used to determine the MPH since the distance is fixed. So it is almost an average speed.
However, you will not vary +/- 10 MPH over that last 66 feet. You may have a variance of 5 - 6 MPH at most which would put the terminal velocity at just over 100 MPH. That would put it close to redline.
Also, the tachs are not perfect either and may vary from car to car +/- 200 RPM or so.

also depending on whether they go above 110 and hit 4th!

No, they measure the time between the two points and calculate the speed. If you trapped at 98 MPH you would have taken 0.459 seconds to travel that 66 feet.
