a part of me thinks it doesn't quite sound "right" with that car... I'm trying to shake it off desperately - but it's buggin' me.

I was thinking the same thing. While the exhaust does sound great, it really doesn't fit the car at all. A little more subdued would be more appropriate.

watching it some more... the "smaller" sport sedans can get away with this sound... RS6, RS4, M5... but the big flagship sedans - do not sound right with these higher-pitched engine noises. I think you will be hearing more and more about this issue as the S8 nears public release...

close your eyes while watching the video... it's very hard to imagine the sound is coming from a full-size Audi S8. As much as I'd like to.

My guess is the car will not be so loud with daily driving. Only when you get on it is when the engine will scream like a lambo.

Best of both worlds IMO

The last S8 was very loud inside. Even at part throttle at ~ 2000 RPM there was horrid exhaust resonance inside the cabin.

It sounded like a leak. I'm not sure if it was an aftermarket exhaust or not.

the guy who owned it said it had a dealer installed exhaust that "added something like 50 hp" to his car. I asked if they were headers and he said no.

Looking at the exhaust from the rear I recall that it had the interlocking rings and looked like an oem exhaust. The car was hella noisy though. In any event the car didn't feel that much faster than a Hemi powered 300C. I doubt the 50 hp claim.

After watching that second video, I definitely stand by my statement that the exhaust note does not fit the car at all. The car seems amazing with a beautiful interior, but the S-Class, 7-Series, A8 class cars should have a more subdued exhaust note.

This engine would be amazing and more in character in an RS6 though.

honestly I don't mind this sound as much as the V10's... in fact I like it. This has a deeper growl... it is a bit much but it just makes the car sound meaner.... Meaner is ok... the V10 doesn't make it sound mean... it makes it sound like an Italian exotic... which its not.

Not sure what you are getting at.

This statement exactly

Regardless, even if you compare it against my first statement, which I wasn't refefencing in the first place, the exhaust does sound nice.. I never once said it didn't. Just that it doesn't fit the car.
