VH1 corvette giveaway

Back in '89 or '90, VH1 had a contest where they gave away to one person one Corvette for every year of production. Ever wonder what happened to the
cars?

I read about this the other day.
A guy from this Corvette club went to take photos of them and is now on a crusade to “save” the cars.

Go here to find more info on this and TONS more pictures.

Is this Pete Max the original winner of these vettes, or did he buy them from the winner?
It almost makes me sick to see so many unwanted beautiful cars.

He bought the collection from the winner of the contest for 500,000 back in 1989.

Damn....and he bought them all just to paint them some ugly-ass colors??
Who is this Peter Max (if that is his REAL name)? Aside from obviously being some sort of artist and being wealthy (I can't imagine garage space for all those vettes in NYC is cheap.)
What art is he best known for?

He’s easily a multimillionaire.
His trademark is 70’s psychedelic colors, flowers, clouds and such shit.
Then he sells the stuff to insanely rich “art loving” people.

http://www.petermax.com

Let’s not start a whole “what is art” argument like what happened when “The Gates” invaded Central Park a few months ago.

This was on the Vette forums about a week or two ago. This schmuck wants to ruin an absolutley B-E-A-UTIFULL original first year Vette by paiting it pink with purple poke-a-dots.

Does naybody else think that this guy is ruining automotive history???

He might as well have the most expensive demolition derby to get attention at this rate.

as offensive as it sounds to you and I, it won't hurt the value of the cars much. those cars can be easily stripped/repainted without affecting their value a whole lot.

Very true, However, the unfortunate part is that these will be imortalized as art and will never actually be driven again.
I don't forsee him selling any of these off at any point and they will remain inatimate for the rest of thier existance as an art piece of some sort.

But like Shawn said, although we may disagree ( and I would be willing to guess that most of us do) who are we to say that it isn't art?
