Looking at the original photo, my opinion is that somebody was way too sloppy applying that stuff, and the process needs better quality control since the end result shows that it's out of control. As a manufacturing/QA engineer I wouldn't accept that even on a $15k car...it doesn't cost more to do a better job than that and I can easily make a case that a properly controlled process would even cost less due to less wasted material, better/optimum coverage, better customer satisfaction.

Basically what I'm saying is that the OP's post has a picture of "gunk", nothing else. His post does not deserve any serious response.

Considering the nature of rust-proofing application that the pic shows, manufacturing/QA has NOTHING to do with it because all manufacturing and quality checks are already done by the time this is applied (at dealer or other place WAY down the line from manufacture)....are you suggesting that aftermarket processes don't have to have any QA? I sure don't accept that.

Its not, but it was likely an aftermarket procedure. There is no way that gets past any mass manufacturer's QA department.
And if you pay for undercoating at a dealer you deserve what you get.

However, his blog is also a flying mess and pure comedy.
