Used Mitsubishi Impressions

Hi all,

I am shopping for a used commuter car for my younger brother.

I was looking at the 02 Mitsubishi Galant. It has 65K miles on it and is in relatively good condition. I was wondering how is the long term reliabilty of this car? Are they expensive to maintain ? In general, is it smart to buy this over a usual Honda or Toyota.
Also current mitsu owners, how is the drive of this car ?

Your input is appreciated.
~Ash.

I'd stay away. Everyone I know that has had one (know 2 ppl with mirages, 1 galant, 1 outlander and 1 montero) has regretted their purchase. Mostly because of their unreliability.
And on top of that, they depreciate so fast it's not funny.

There's a reason why Mitsu is in the shits.

^ I agree with the depreciation comment. I mean the guy is selling his 02 Galant with 65K miles on it for $5800 OBO.

Do u guys think if i offer him $5000 cash and he accepts it... Should i buy it if the engine is in sound condition ?

Here is pic of it ..

I went for a test drive. Initial feeling... ride was bad and the steering wheel was just too loose.
My freind thinks i feel the difference cuz i m used to the handling of my CLK430. Newho, even if the drive is ok, every1 i have talked to told me stay away from Galants.

The guy gave me a price of $5300. The car is fully loaded, all power and abs brakes.

One neg is carfax is CLEAN but it was first used a Rental car for a year and then leased to its current owner. Buying a rental is like marrying a dirty Slut, its been around!

Flip side, for $5300 its not a bad deal if im planning to keep the car just until my brother gets done with college.

Decisions .. decisions ... btw my brother wants to lease a new M3 .. Right

The fact that it depreciates so fast would be an advantage of buying it used. I'm actually going to look at a 2002 Galant 60k miles, after i get out of work in about an hour. Its for my cousin who's in college. Its got a clean carfax, 1 owner, registered as a private vechicle. MSN Autos says there's no major issues with this where as for Accords/TL's they say Tranny problems.

very fast! The thing will end up costing him big bucks in repairs, and it's fugly too! The worst thing is the wheels. Looks like Mitsu raided the Ford Taurus SE parts bin. If you want to get him a cheap to operate car, check out a 6th gen Accord I4 5MT (in EX or EX-L trim). If an Accord is too boring, try hitting up a used Altima (the Accord has a nicer interior though). Manual transmissions are much more reliable too, so make sure whatever you get is MT.

Fuck Mitsu. Even my buddy with an 03 Evo says they are still known for the typical mitsubishi problems.
I had a 98 EclipseGS... Don't get me started
