Depends on what you're looking for/what image you want to convey.
M3 coupe screams all out performance
M3 convertable says performance, but also fun
S55 says elegant and classy with some performance in mind.
I would go with the S55...

i'm a benz guy as well, but it depends on what you're looking for. I definitely wouldn't put the M-B S55 in the same category as the BMW M3. If don't need the room and are looking more for a fun overall car, go with the M3. However, if you need to bring some people along (especially for any distance) get the S55.

I've heard complaints from two buddies that their M3s have too-stiff suspensions for day-to-day driving, along with rattles from the convertible (M3 and regular 3, in my experience).

S55AMG only because it looks sleeker and some average car person who doesn't know anything about cars and only about car badges might mistake the M3 for a lower end 3 series car

(1) It's new
(2) More performance than the convertible
(3) The cost to repair the S55 (out of warranty if you are going to get a 2003...unless CPO) will be ridiculous if/when something happens to it (and this is coming from an MB fan).
