Well, looks like Christopher may get his wish - https://jalopnik.com/acura-is-bringi...ine-1822116301

Acura Is Bringing Back The Type-S Performance Line

We’ve been big fans of what Honda’s been up to lately, what with fast and fun stuff like the Civic Type R and the NSX. Besides that expensive supercar, however, the fun hasn’t really trickled up to the Acura luxury brand—the last TLX we drove was far more dull than it looked. But Acura seems intent on fixing that by bringing back the Type-S line. This is good news.

Hmm - I hadn't planned on trying to increase my income over the next few years (in order to afford a "real" Type S) - may have to re-think that???

A better plan for me though, would be to just downgrade to a CTR for my next car - after all, that would probably be my last new car before I'm starting to feel too old to go [very] fast and me having an Acura now is fufiling my desire to at least experience ownership of a "luxury" car. I'll be happy enough going back to a Civic once my older boy goes off to college.

I am curious, is your TLX your first Acura? It seems you dont know much of its history when it comes to Acura.

I give Christopher. credit: He doesn't shit on everyone else's car and I respect that. Saintor can't say a thing without sideswiping a car he privately believes is superior to the one he bought.

Yeah, I think Christopher. has been a good sport. He's put up with a fair amount of abuse on this subject...although all of the abuse about the Type-S badge is TOTALLY deserved.

*GM's stellar adhesive finally crapped the bed and I found the V badge laying on the pavement one morning. I figured I'd leave it off since I'm always revving the piss out of the motor to impress myself.

actually, I'm so OCD I even ordered a badge insert for the V badge I had already removed from the car in case I decided to Stephen Belle it and stick them on the fenders in addition to.

Fixed.

And you stopped trying to increase your income? Also, you do realize that the CTR is quite a lot faster than your TLX right? Hell the time to own the ridiculous car is when you and your kids are young. Pick up the lazy Acura when you are both older.

I like to remain impartial...
and you know I've had my hands on my fair share of vehicles...
there's something "better" about the damn Audis...even over the 911...
it's an opinion but it's bordering on fact.
The TLX makes perfect sense...on paper it has all the things it should...it drives great, handles great, looks great...
but it "feels" like a computer on wheels and I think a lot of new cars suffer that fate. Something is being lost in trying to
make the most technologically advanced vehicles on the road.

Part of it is the damned NVH people are complaining about. God dammit, my 06 TL is NOT loud at all, but considered deafening compared to a modern car. The silence takes so much away from being behind the wheel.

And don't you love it? Does it feel robotic? Or does it feel engaging as all fuck, feeling every bump, hearing the engine scream, the shifter vibrate a bit, and the wind noise all around, while the pretty damn stiff chassis causes those subtle bumps and not so subtle bumps, to be transferred to your ass cheeks, down the road?

to be honest, the wind noise in an s2000, at high way speeds does get tiring. But the s2000 is at the extreme end of the spectrum in terms of NVH.

It's awesome and exhilarating for the first 10-20 or so minutes of mundane driving. After that it sucks. S2000 is awesome to drive hard and tiring to drive soft. Just the nature of the beast.

I got a good dose of that in my current long-term rental car as I switched out of a Camaro RS to a Caddy XTS....the steering is super light and vague/loose (some prior renter knocked the alignment off cause the steering wheel is not centered, lol), very comfy ride, roomy, but man big difference in how the two feel. I just saw the XTS also has a Vsport version that I guess it supposed to be a spiritual successor to the STS-V, but I can see why ppl go for the sportier CTS/ATS cars.

Not saying I love the firm suspension of a sporty car all the time, but definitely I can see the appeal of a sport sedan that has practicality/comfort when needed, and the sportiness when desired.

Off topic: The weird half touch/half-feedback touchscreen/black piano plastic of the new Caddys definitely needs to get some used to. I'm learning how to use swipe left/right to adjust volume and it's starting to become more useful/intuitive......kinda clever I do have to say....

A little more torque/HP and the option to stiffen up my suspension and I'd really be thrilled with the TLX, not just "like" it. This car is my daily driver, not the summer fun car that mostly lives in the garage - as such, I appreciate the quiet comfort and many little aspects that make the car simply a pleasure to use on a daily basis.

Oh, of course I know the CTR is faster - the Acura is roomier, quieter, more comfortable, better for long road trips. It still has decent handling, isn't too big, and it's got almost 300 HP - so, it's still a fun car for me. I the car I traded in when I got this one was the Toyota Sienna, and in some ways I miss having the mini van (such as seating the kids on separate rows so they fight less) - but, we've adjusted to having the smaller car now and it's good.

Thanks.

Do I think they messed up a little on the 2018 Audi A4 aesthetics? Yeah, but it's just a couple minor gripes, I honestly expect that I'd get over that real fast - as soon as I drove the car on nice dry road without much traffic. I've had my eye on Audis for quite a few years - I think I'd wanted an Audi S5 ever since I saw the movie Ronin? Anyway, at $37K for my 2018 V6 Tech package Acura TLX, I'm not sure I could get much more for my money, overall, with another brand. Add in the fact that choosing Acura meant that I got the car bought for me through a company car plan and it's pretty much a no-brainier.

I've said it a few times before, but I would have actually bought either the CTR or Accord 2.0T, had I not been annoyed with my Honda dealer for what I saw as treating me rudely. In the end, I don't regret getting the Acura, even if the reason it happened was foolish, because it's a very nice car.

I honestly think fake air scoops are 1,000x more lame than a silly little sticker, and those come factory installed on cars like the Kia Stinger, Honda Fit, some Mustangs, etc. etc. etc.!!!

Something along those lines is why I went with the Acura TLX instead of the Honda CTR that I could have got for $10K less. I thought about taking the kids on road trips to NYC, maybe Florida, Maryland in the summer, etc. Sometimes we fly, sometimes we drive - and I know the TLX is gonna be a damn fine ride, compared to other options, if I'm putting 500 - 1,000 highway miles in on a trip. The car stays in the lane by itself if I take my hands off the wheel! Fan-fucking-tastic highway/safety/comfort/noise features on the TLX for long highway drives.

Good for you. Saying that you just stopped wanting to make more money was a bit different than making the choice you did.

Yes you're absolutely right it's quieter and more roomy but the CTR is still a Civic at heart and not bad at all in terms of space and NVH. It's probably second to the Golf R in terms of refined driving compared to the competition.

When it comes to those two cars, they could have still been yours. Your beef was with that dealership and not the brand. There are thousands of Honda dealers in the country and literally any of them could have sold you what you wanted at the price you wanted (it seems that you even found one?) yet you still chose something that you appear to regret buying.

The TLX is orders of magnitude more refined than the S2000. Compared to the S2k, the TLX might as well be an early 70's Caddy. I've taken a grand total of one road trip longer than 2 hours in the car and that was plenty for me. Unless I'm taking the car somewhere for a reason (track, event, etc) I'm fine with keeping it close to home and using the comfy Jeep with vented seats and auto climate control for my travels.

You wanna call me "Rice King" or something, go ahead - I even married a Japanese girl. Like somebody was saying in regards to Sarlacc - KEK, yeah damn right, my kids look a lot better than I do. I guess they're smarter than me too?

:P
I married a Japanese girl as well, but I have gone from Honda to Subaru and Volvo (have owned both of each). Does that give me vaginitis and lez-baru disease? Hell no. But I can tell you that both Subaru's have been extremely reliable and value for money. Both Volvo's have been super reIiable as well. I just don't try to compare them to cars that are much better. I can't afford an Audi or anything else that floats my boat at the moment. Sending kids to college is rough on the pocketbook.

Back on topic, knowing Acura the "new" Type S TLX will see a "modest" increase in HP, from 290 to 305. And they will add special seats and an interior badge. Charge $5K more and call it a day
