Ultra light carbon wheels come to North America...

I wonder how much...?

The world's lightest carbon fiber/magnesuium street wheels are now available in the United States. Rennworx will distribute the wheels — developed by developed by Dymag in the UK — in America starting immediately. Each carbon fiber rim is fabricated using a solid metal mold which ensures they are made to a close tolerance. Lightweight wheels significantly reduce the moment of inertia and drastically cut the amount of power required to turn the wheel. The Dymag carbon wheels weigh about 13.23 lbs (other documents say 14lbs) each, according to the company. Consider that a standard Porsche 18" wheel weighs about 30.86lbs. That means a stock Porsche could lose 70.55 lbs by switching to Dymag wheels.

The loss of 70+lbs of unsprung weight is worth how much to you around the track? Just imagine the loss one could see if they also went with Carbon/Ceramic rotors. You could drop nearly 100 lbs in unsprung weight.

Ding ding ding. Ask youself this, are there any racing series that allow the use of carbon fiber wheels? None that I know of. They simply aren't safe.

Shattering failure aside, there are also pontential issues of unseen damage with structural carbon fiber components. If you don't believe me, pick up the July, 2006 issue of Racecar Engineering magazine and read for yourself.
