Why would RS3 be any faster than you from the dig? Transmission?

If so, join Pornhub with the free premium service and start practicing your shift.

Transmission 100%.

The S4s 01E transmission doesn’t like to be shifted quickly (no lift shifts = busted shift collars) & gear ratios suck for the first 1/8th mile ..

I swear, if my car had DSG it would probably be in the upper 10s / low 11s @ 125mph.

I was slightly offended when you first said it, then I realized why you probably feel that way and that I don't understand being
on the receiving end of racism too much. Then I realized it wasn't personal but more a broad feeling. Then we went camping.
We played with our robots. The end.

And you also maybe felt bad to seeing how I was taken to the alleys of AZ (R&P), gang-beat until my lips were as big as Taco's Omega Supreme.

This is why you should just get the remans from Napa auto for cheap(er than a new one) instead. My E46 ate front CV boots like a fat kid with a cake, remans from Napa were a lifesaver.

Truthfully, I haven't had good luck with re-manufactured axles from a parts store... regardless of brand. For the B5 specifically, nothing really beats OEM CVs / Axle shafts .. they're strong AF and don't vibrate.

I am kicking myself ... somebody parted out a S4 local to me and was selling a front pair of Raxles for $350 picked up .. sold within an hour . Lifetime warranty, stronger than OEM ... can be sent into them even for boot rips

the only part stronger than oem is supposedly the boots and grease...
they are expensive remans. I wouldn't rebuy them.

in 60K Austin had to have passenger side replaced and I just had to clean up and seal the driver side boot.

To be honest, i think it is time for you to give up on the Audi and giving in to the E46. BMW FTW

My dream would be to E46 M3 swap it ... but, it's about a 6-8k endeavor. Not in the cards .. and won't be for a long time.

I like AMGs, but they aren't my style. No 3rd pedal option is my biggest gripe

Straight line speed is a priority too ... B5 pretty much walks most factory performance cars for a fraction of the cost / repair cost. It's hard to justify anything else.

The trick I found is to go into the store and inspect the axle before you bought it. Often times, the reman is a reman of an OE axle just with new grease and new boots. With the E46, there were ways to identify an OE axle vs an aftermarket one. Might be something similar for Audis?

Fixed.

The W204 AMG was an excellent car but I just never liked the looks and the interior seemed cheap for what it was.

Agreed, the W204 was my least favorite generation from W201-205. Beastly in AMG guise, but not the nicest in the aesthetic dept.

To be honest, as much as i like E46 M3, i would not do that swap because reliability is not something to brag about for E46s....
B58 + 2016+ 340's 6mt swap FTW.

Some new parts installed / coming on the S4, pretty excited to get this stuff done as it's a been a long time coming.

My primary focus now is getting the car's suspension & brakes refreshed. I took a drive through some twisties and ... never felt more disappointed with how this car handled . Car feels very floaty / not confidence inspiring.

I put the car up on stands and took a look ... all of my lower control arm bushings are split and the sway bar bushings front & rear were literally collapsed.

Front lower control arms:

So far, I've installed new front & rear sway bar bushings and I have new 034 density lower control arms coming today. I was going to buy a hydraulic press & press new bushings but, lower front control arms also have ball-joints that will inevitably need replacement anyway.

Additionally, I have everything needed for a brake upgrade except for the rotors. I have 4 piston Brembos from a Toureg packed with pads, new caliper seals, braided B7 RS4 brake lines, and the hardware kit for mounting the calipers.. only thing left is acquiring Volvo V70R front rotors and put my drill press to work.

This never ending project just keeps on giving - I think I need a new driverside axle (Same one I've regreased / rebooted twice) - My car has developed a very light metallic clicking when turning right ... just going to replace it and keep this one as a rebuild-able spare. Should be in today.

As far as aesthetics, I picked up a set of aluminum sports mirrors for cheap. They were a pain to mount since both phillips head screws underneath each mirror were frozen solid from rust ... 0 leverage from underneath. Drilled them out & improvised with other hardware I had laying around.

I'll post more updates when my brake upgrade is underway .. thanks for reading my long winded posts!

Mirrors seem a bit too shiny/reflective, as compared to the newer S/RS Audis, to me. Definitely draws the eye there.

Yup - they're generally brushed aluminum but these are pretty reflective.

Personally, I love the look. I think I'll eventually getting some silver wheels to match them up as I think it flows better.

The lighter wheels complement it a lot more than the current look.

Looks awesome man, excited to see the brake stuff come to life! do V70R rotors fit on this thing or is that the drilling you need to do?

Thanks dude!

The 330mm rotor market for a "custom" B5 S4 BBK kit is tough - it's either C230 (which is 5x112, but the center hub hole needs to be widened by a few mm), or get a V70R rotor that has the correct hub measurement, but the rotor holes are 5x110.

3/4" drill bit, some lube & drill press will make quick work of this.

According to the forums, the V70R rotors require the least amount of work to fit.

Pretty excited!

The stock HP2 calipers on the B5 are astonishingly bad. I can fade them completely in 1 stop @ 80mph.

034 density lower control arms came in on Monday and I picked up my new driverside front axle yesterday .. hardware for the control arms should be here on Friday.

I know what my weekend plans are going to be
