Two car choices (G35 Sedan)

I ruled out the CLS and now am leaning towards a G35 sedan as my second car.

Check out A (G35 Sedan, black on black):

http://cars.com/go/search/detail/pho...aff=national#0

Check out B (G35x

http://cars.com/go/search/detail/pho...aff=national#0

I prefer the black on black, but the second one is AWD. Let's say the AWD version is about 1k more.... but price isn't an option. Which would you get? The color combo in #2 is not my first choice, but it seems it's the better value due to the AWD factor. What do you think? Should I go with my favorite color combo and settle with RWD, or go with my second choice and get silver?

I LOVE the tan on the TL's and TSX, but it's a bit darker then the one showed above... so I have to see it in person first...

03/04 G35 Sedan is the ugliest out of all the years....

But black/black gets my vote.

STILL 03 Sedan is uglY!

05/06 is much better.

AWD is far from overrated for someone who drives in the snow. My gf just bought a g35X with Navi and its a ridiculous car. It weighs a little bit more and isnt as fast as the rwd, but I will take the loss vs the rwd for safety reasons.

Hmm, that's a tough one. I also like the black/black one better, but AWD is tempting. There are no other choices in your area?

in my personal experiance the AWD seems to be more RWD biased. it only comes on when it feels the rear wheels slipping, and then the fronts will come on and right after the slipping is gone it's back to RWD biased. so to me it's more RWD than anything and isn't a true AWD. but i'd go with the black on black. i've esearched the G35x and tht was my findings because i was loking for an AWD vehicle

It's actually the same system as in the Skyline GTR.

ATTESA-ETS

The Skyline/G35x uses an electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system (similar to Porsche's 959). A 16-bit microprocessor monitors the car's movements a 100 times per second, including wheel rotation and lateral as well as longitudinal acceleration. When slip is detected at a driving wheel, the system electronically distributes torque from this spinning wheel to one without slip.

In this case the electronic AWD-system offers the advan-tage that actions are enacted much faster than by a viscous-coupling-system (we're speak-ing of hundredths of a second here). In standard setup, ATTESA-ETS distributes the torque to the rear-wheels, but when slip is detected on one of those rear-wheels, it can distribute up to 50% of the torque to the front wheels, i.e. it can adjust the front/rear torque-split from

anything between 0:100 to 50:50. Among the rear-wheels, an active LSD can further distribute the torque from one wheel to the other if necessary. Due to this setup, the Skyline / G35x can even drift, although it is an AWD car.

I would think for a daily driver in Chicago winters you would want AWD.

Our roads get cleaned up pretty quickly around here. AWD would come in handly few days out of the year.

I still rather rock RWD with snow tires than AWD with all seasons. That way you can have RWD during the summer to have some fun.

The AWD one.
You live in IL
Silver shows less wear then black
The silver G35 looks like it's in better shape.

I don't like tan interiors either, but I don't like black cars either.

The AWD system in the G35 Sedan makes you feel like it does have RWD. Which it is until it needs FWD power. It's a great system, better IMHO than my A4 Quattro I had.

Yes but its still slower and heavier than the RWD version.

What does the quattro system have to do with any of this? Quattro is old technology cant really be compared.

I would say the AWD also. With that said I would also add the the G35X is not too good on gas. My co-worker has one and that's his biggest complaint. But in IL, I'm probably not going to get a RWD car.

How so? If the rear wheels are spinning while drifting wont it try to send power to the front?

checked out the AWD, they are not really budging on the price and I wasnt really feeling the color anyways (it's like a "dusty" or beige-ish silver). Interior was pretty clean, but I think I'm I would prefer black. Tomorrow I check out the RWD. If everything looks good, and we can work out a deal, I'll have a G35 by next week and a set of blizzaks. I mean seriously, I think there are quite a few stereotypes on RWD vehicles. With traction control and winter tires, I think I'll be more then fine. I mean seriously, how many BMW's do I see year round? The funny thing is that on the "euro" car sites, most of them recommend RWD.

You wont regret it and if you do then you can punch me in my cooter and video tape it. Then post it on AZ.

Did you ask any G35 forums? What do they say...

Get that new color Blue slate with black.

I saw it in person last night when they previewed the 07 G35 at a local Infiniti dealer.

Blue slate looks like Carbon Grey on the Accord, TSX, and RL.

Quattro is a known awd system. I use to own it so I can compare it easier.

It's all split, and have the responses are ppl from Cali who never heard of snow.. are INSIST on AWD due to how dangerous RWD is in the rain.

Maybe it's just me, but I would personally go with a FWD or AWD for the snow. Especially if I were not the only one driving it. If my wife would also be using the car, I would feel more comfortable if it wasn't a RWD.

I've driven a friends 5 series in the snow, and it runs great. She kept 2 big bags of kitty litter in the trunk. For weight and also it's great for traction if she needed it.

Yeah, if I had a wife and kids, I'd probably want an awd or fwd vehicle for them, but RWD is fine in rain or snow if you know how to drive... With traction control and winter tires it should be no problem...

<=== 20 years of driving rwd in snow w/ all season tires. The CLS is my first fwd car. Shit, I used to drive a ford pinto w/ bald tires and never got stuck in snow so bad that I couldn't get the car out with a little persuasive driving...

I like the black/black... While I like tan interiors, I don't think they look good on silver or gray cars... but that's just my opinion. My CLS is red/parchment, but the next car will probably have a black interior (have to mix it up)...

Edit: I just went back and read the whole first page... looks like you got the people who are afraid of rwd covered I swear some of these people sound like my mother when they talk about the dangers of rwd in rain and snow

Since hes comparing it to his OLD A4, i guess we can assume he also had a G35x. Is that correct?

But ill just assume he was just trying to start shit like always.

RWD is fine in snow if you have winter tires (and a dead body in the trunk). i've driven beemers and s2000 thru two winters without any difficulties. i rather have handling performance for 3 seasons and driving like granny 1 winter any day.

personally i would prefer AWD in the NE, but if i had to get a G35 i get the Sport only b/c the front frasica is much better looking then the others, imo.

curse acura for not giving us an awd TL-S (yeah, yeah...that's for another thread).

Please try and stay on-topic. PM one another if you have issues.

You don't need AWD, even in Chi-town area. Just get good set of snow tires if you're gonna go RWD. I know my bro got a GS300 AWD so he doesn't have to swap rims ... what a goof.

I live in Canada; RWD is fine with good tires - 20 years without a problem; just get the snows on as soon as winter threatens (so now).

Second, and more important in this case, is that while I hate tan interiors keep in mind Infiniti paint is literally the worst in the business. Keeping the black car swirl free is an effort in futility. If you can live with marred paint, it's the better looking car. If rock chips, swirls, and scratches bother you, go with the silver.

My buddy bought a loaded IS250 awd for $40k. His reasoning for not getting a IS350 is that he didnt want to swap tires for winter.

I dont think that would be the case with Synth though, im sure he wouldnt mind swapping wheels twice a year. Hell I used to do it once a month when I drove to MI.
