Tune Up

I am taking my 97 accord lx that just hit 70K in for a tune up and oil change. It is also messing up some soon after cold starts. I drive it slow for warm up and sometimes it kinda starts chugging and the rpms just fall and it starts like making a poping sound I am having my mechanic look at that, heard it could be fuel filter and if it wasn't it should be changed anyways. this true?

My question is what should I have him do for a tune up for better gas miliage etc. I am planning on changing to synthetic oil

A search revealed this "Spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor (if applicable), check all fluids (tranny, oil, coolant). Clean/replace air filter and clean fuel injectors"
questions about that.....
1. I know my brother got new OBX spark plug wires about 30K miles ago, do they need to be replaced?
2. What is a rotor? brake rotor?? (i am such a noob )
3. How long does an 02 sensor last? should i look into a new one?
thanks!

1) Probably not. I'd test'em at around 60K with an ohm meter.
2) Not good at explaining this one...try someone else
3) Test it to see if its still good. I'd personally replace it at 100K.

Yes, a clogged fuel filter is a possible cause for the problems you're experiencing.

a rotor is inside the distributor cap and rotates inside of it. I can't remember what it does, but there are plenty of distributor cap upgrades out there that are OEM price or cheaper and can provide some gains. I would change fuel filter, air filter, oil change, sparks(why not) and run some gumout complete fuel system cleaner and then clean you TB. also new battery terminals and upgrading ground wire to 4ga helps too.

the rotor is what makes a conection between the center of the distributor which is powered, and each electorde as it spins.

02 sensor should be fine. Unless your throwing a code telling you its bad, there is no need to replace it.

DO you have the manual for the car? It usually tells you what you need to do.
What sbuswell said is a pretty good start though.

yea i have the manual for the car and i have followed all of the service intervals but um yea they suck lol it says don't mess with aut tranny fluid till 90K and it doesn't mention fuel filter or rotor anywhere.

What would i need to get for the rotor is it "DISTRIBUTOR CAP AND ROTOR KIT", becauase autozone doesn't carry it for my particular car. and is there any good type of fuel filter or is anything ok. and what kind of spark plugs do you recomend. I am going to go by autozone and pick some stuff up. Thanks!

it will take an hour or so to replace the fuel filter. you really need long orams to fit down the firewall. and you must be able to loosen the nuts w/o seeing them and just feeling around
