No plans...although, if anyone has any ideas on where to find some LED license plate light replacements, I'd like to do that. Otherwise, I'll probably leave well enough alone for a while.

Wow Tim, I'm glad you looked into the Genesis
While it's in a different class than the M5, I think it's a great car. I can see myself replacing my TL with a R-Spec later in life
I'm sorry this turn of events has happened but I applaud you for doing the right thing even though it hurt.

The M5 is gone.
I now own a 2011, Black on black, Genesis 4.6, with 25K miles. I paid $31K, and they gave me $32,700 (with the tax savings) for the M5 (they first offered $28k). It's a very nice car and totally loaded; but I'm not feeling very celebratory at the moment. When I cease mourning the loss of the M, I'll post some pictures.

I feel your heart ache, but like in life, you can't dwell on the past and sorrow. It was a facet in your life, you got to cherish and that is whats most important. Some of us may not even get the chance to own such a car, be lucky you got to!
Anyway, congrats on the new car!!! That was super fast decision as S14 said. Definitely won't be on par with the m5 in terms of driving experience (as you already know), but nevertheless an awesome car. Please post new pics when you decide to. And make a new thread as well.

Seriously. I'm not gonna lie. I've done a little of that in the past few days.
My wife and kids are driving up to my office right now; the kids decided they needed to go say goodbye to the M5. The salesman at the Porsche dealer where I got the Genesis agreed to make it available for a little family visit this afternoon. I'll take a few pics.

I know it really sucks now but I think in the long run this could work out to your advantage.
Especially if the money situation is just short-medium term.
Imagine paying off the 4.6 and having a DD you could safely assume will do 150k miles and then going and getting something that stirs the soul like the M5 did but not have to rack up miles on it.
That's my hope for you. And of course that your mom gets better goes without saying.
And it could be worse. You could have ordered a Mini Countryman S :P

T, best of luck with everything. You did what you had to do, family first always.
Sad that you had to get rid of it but I have no doubt that you'll have something like the M5 again some day.
Congrats on the pick up! I don't think the Gen Sedan is an extreme step down.

Sad turn of events for this thread, but family and resposibilities should ALWAYS take priority over material things.
Have fun with your new ride. Who knows, maybe BMW will come back with another V10 when they remodel in several years. By then, the Genesis will be long paid off and the BMW will be your weekender!
Keep us posted.

Damn, just caught up on this thread Tim. I know you are a hardcore car fiend like me so I can empathize with your pain. Obviously as a CPA, you are better equipped than most to make the prudent financial decision and take it from me, health is priceless so helping out your mom is the way to go. Like Joe said, cars come and go and in the end they are just machines. You will have good karma return the favor in the future when you are in a financial situation that will allow you to truly enjoy your new car guiltfree. The Hyundai will serve your present needs and always remember that brighter days are ahead

Congrats on the new car! Not sure how much of a difference there is between the R-Spec (which I've driven) and the 4.6, but I doubt it's much. While not an M5, I'm sure you'll enjoy it, and I hope all of the issues that brought this about work out for you. Looking forward to updates on the Genesis.

Good grief, I have issues. I just ordered OEM replacement badges for the trunk and the steering wheel (the Genesis wings to replace the "H").

Oddly, Hyundai still offers a 2012 Genesis 4.6 and a 5.0; they are only 1000$ apart, according to their site.
Specially because you use it also for business, any reason why don't consider leasing more seriously? There are some good offers out there. Not that I don't like the Genesis.

Just discovered something on the Genesis..........it plays DVDs on the NAV screen! VERY COOL!
ETA: Just checked...it blocks out the video as soon as you put the car in gear...there HAS to be a way to hack that!

Congrats T. Family first and this doesn't seem too horrible of a place holder until another fun machine comes around
BTW, yes you can defeat the DVD lockout while the car is in motion. Check the Genny forums.

Man, the pics of the kids by the M5? Wow...
I've been lurking in this thread for a while too and its sad to see it go.
At the same time, you did enjoy it for a time and there will be a time
later where you'll have another fun toy. Besides the Gen isnt too bad a replacement

Sad to see the M5 go. Without a doubt in my mind, you made the right decision.
I think you'll soon start enjoying the Genesis even more as the miles rack up, don't have to worry about potential / expensive maintenance!
Let the modding begin!

Terribly sorry to see the M5 go, but I cannot commend you enough for doing what you did. There'd be so many other people who wouldn't suck it up and do what they've gotta do for family in the name of their beloved car. The Genesis certainly is a nice car too.

That Genesis 4.6 is a blast to drive and comfortable to cruise in. I rented one on my trip to Florida last year for a week. I loved the size of the back seat. Lots of room for the kids and passengers. Plus the V8 rear wheel drive is no M5 but it's no slush bucket either. If I had to replace my TL, the Genesis is 1st on the list!
Great choice and smart decisions by you sir.

Wow Tim that was fast man! All the best luck with the Genny!!! I'm really glad to see you stay with a RWD sports sedan. Thankfully the truck talk was just that, but I can see where you were going with that. You'll enjoy the 4.6 as a DD I'm sure.
I'm staying at the Zona Resort on Princess right across from the Porsche dealership. I'll have to drive through the lot on the way back to the hotel to see if they have it listed yet. What kind of mark up do you think they'll put on it?
I could see how upset you were discussing the impending sale of the M5, and I'm sure it still hurts, but cheers to you for making the right decision for you and your family. You will always be able to say you owned one of the finest cars the world's ever seen. Not many people will ever have the opportunity to say that and I know you are proud to have had the chance to own it. Your enthusiasm showing me all the controls and settings on the M5 was proof of just how endearing the car was to you. Letting me take it for a spin the other day was a major highlight for me. Thank you.
