hehe... I think we had the discussion about the GT before...

But it is interesting to actually hear from someone on the market specifically cross-shopping the two.

Junkster, who would vote for the TSX

I gotta reiterate that the Legacy GT wasn't all that impressive when I drove it. It just feels like a big engine (or rather a small turbo engine) strapped to an AWD system.

It is a huge improvement from the previous model, and not just for the power.

The quality of build has been improved significantly, and the overall look of the car is much better then my scoobie (although, I do like the geeky look of my scoob). And the AWD is a nice driving experience, especially on foul weather conditions. If anyone's owned or driven the previous legacy, they would probably agree on the most part.

But it isn't impressive when compared to near/entry lux sedans. The material still is cheap, and not everything looks fit and finish compared to a TSX, 3 series, A4 or G35.

Junkster, who would still like a bit more power on the TSX

I drove the SRT-4 once. It's a fun car, but I would never buy it. Cheap interior quality plus the shifter position doesn't work well for me (I brush my hand against the seat to get the car into 2nd). However, the exhaust sound of the SRT-4 is phenomenal...it pops and burbles like a race car when you get off the throttle.

If I wanted a fast car, I'd get the SRT-4 in a heartbeat. Luckily, I want something more than just speed so the TSX really fits my needs well.

That's because they have no mufflers. Seriously.

I know...and I love the sound. I wonder how the TSX would sound if the mufflers were pulled and it was nothing but straight pipe after the catalyst?

Probably like the SRT-4. Inline 4. Split exhaust. Can't be that much different unless the firing happens at different times (which I doubt). Someone want to knock their mufflers off?

Well, the TSX engine has such a different nature from the SRT-4 turbo engine, that it should have a unique tone. If I had the money, I'd just have a custom exhaust system bent to find the answer to this question.

Oh yeah. I forgot about that turbo.

So the TSX should be even louder...

Hmm...

I've been messing with the pricing on the Subaru Canada website, and with same money down on a leased LGT that I put down on my TSX, it comes out $200 more per month plus tax for a car that is supposed to be only 2k more.

Even with a 4.8% lease rate. The only difference is that they will only do a 36 month term vs 48, but even then it is almost $200 more.

I wonder if they've set the residual payment very low on the LGT? That would explain the high monthly payments if it's true.

Well, given that Subaru doesn't retain its value anywhere near as well as Acura, it shouldn't surprise anyone that the residual would be low, which means that on a lease, you're paying for a much larger portion of the car than with the TSX.

Knowing Scoobies, the residual is probably teh sux. Although, the Outbacks did fairly better then their legacy counterparts in the previous models.

Perhaps the resid is the answer, they don't give that value online...

With $2500 down, it is $632/month, paying a total lease obligation of $25,285. So the buyout after 36 months would only $11k.

Damn depreciation.

Yikes, that sounds crappy for a lease... at that monthly, might as well buy a car...

Total lease obligation of $25,285...

The total cost of the car is only a few thousand more than that. Add the tax, title, and license and the price still doesn't come up to more than say $5k more. That's just ridiculous that it depreciates that quickly.

The LGT in Canada is $37k before freight & PDI.

Damn you

You guys really have to make it clear that you're talking about CND$ when you post.

Why can't the Canadians get their own symbol for money like the British? It would make things a lot easier on the board.

But anyway...even with $25k+ as the total lease obligation, that's an awful lot. My TSX has about a $18k lease obligation over 4 years in US dollars. That's a whole lot less than the LGT for even 3 years.

Still a lame lease deal. This is why you never lease anything other than a Honda or Toyota.

I think the comparo is deffinately bias towards suby becuase i think they should have taken the non navi 6mt for comparo l. that would drop the car 2k since the suby didnt come with the navi.

I don't get that either, it didn't make any sense to penalize the TSX's price by adding the NAV, when the review focused on performance!

First of all, don't feel sorry for my baby, he will be just fine. Normally I don't respond to ignorant people, but you have crossed the line. For you to think I would drag race with my baby in the car shows that you are very ignorant!!! The "POWER” that I need is for when I go to the track, not for racing on the street. I do not drag race on the street now, so why would I do it when I have my child in the car? You need to worry about yourself and your kid(s) (if you have any) and stop trying to judge other people who you don't know.

And yes, the LGT is worthy competition to the TSX. It caters to different values but it's still competition.

I think the LGT is a great car for its class but I don't think it is entry level lux. Maybe better compared to the Accord and Camry.

I'm not even so certain its direct competition (at least not in Canada) but its not a bad car. And fdl comapring it to a SRT-4 just shows what a big NooB he is

I checked out a Legacy GT a few weeks back - it's a nice car, but at $40K CDN and up, it's getting into TL territory for something that doesn't have a luxury badge or association. Still, it has features that appeal to a certain market segment and has different driving dynamics.
