tripping out (cliffs for the lazy ones)

well i didnt know if this was a problem of if it's just me going crazy so i thought i'd ask you guys. if i post in the wrong section..please move because i didn't see where else i could post this..anyways...

ok so usually sundays or mondays i fill up my tank (05 TL). usually after the end of the work week and the weekend i have about a quarter tank or a tad bit more. ALWAYS pump 91 octane from shell, no excuses.

so yesterday i had about a quarter tank and i went to pump gas. 91 was at 2.63 a gallon at the shell by my house. i didn't fill up because someone was supposed to fill me up for free. anyways, i pumped $20 just in case the person didn't come through and fill up my tank. soo $20 gave me about 7.6 gallons (so it said on the pump) BUT to my surprise/convenience, once the pump reached about $17.50 it stopped...

so im like wtf..kept pumping and it kept stopping..i slowly pumped all the rest and it all went in without overfilling. i get in my car and i have a bit over a FULL TANK.

at this point im like wtf..i had a quarter tank, pumped $20 at 2.63 a gallon and it says it only gave me 7.6 gallons yet im topped off??

how could this be??? im still tripping out on this.

any ideas??

cliffs:
- had 1/4 tank
- pumped $20 at 2.63 a gallon
- pump said it gave me 7.6 gallons
- tank was topped off according to the fuel gaue
- trip computer's mileage matched how much gas i had (full tank)
- confused..lol

Don't worry about it too much ... sometimes the gauge or MID is not accurate ... sh** happens ... a few times my MPG number reset by itself (normally it's accumulative) & I just shrugged it off ...
