Trading in my TL for BMW 550i..Worth it?
Here's the story:
2007 BMW 550i
Sports Package
Premium
Navigation
Cold Weather
Comfort Access
31000 miles
6 year/75000 mile bumper to bumper full warranty
$36775, out the door cost including taxes, title, reg, etc.
They are giving me only $20,000 for my 07 TL Type S w/ 26,500 miles
My TL:
Looks brand new
Has clear bra, all weather mats, huper optik tint
Things they DON'T know about my TL (it's not on the carfax/autocheck yet):
Was involved in an accident (pics are somewhere on this site)
Only body damage, no frame damage or anything
$15000 in repairs
Is it worth it?

It's not worth an extra $16k+ dollars to get a 3 year old BMW, no. At least in my opinion.
You are going to have a rough time with that TL though, if it had $15k in repairs that is SERIOUS damage. I hope you filed a diminished value claim with the insurance company.

The only thing that got bad review is the idrive system.
You would be foolish to trade your TL in for that little money. They are ripping you off. Not only are they gonna make money on the TL you are gonna pay 16k extra. So add those two together.
Your better off selling it privately. Then getting the BMW.
Keep in mind that the TL will last a lot longer without problems than the Bimmer.

I wouldn't...That plus the fact that I think the current gen. 5-series is beyond hideous.

Actually I needed to edit the #s above but it was past my 5 min limit:
The 550i can also be:
$30,500 plus TTL
But this would take away the 6 year warranty. The warranty would then be good until Jan 2011 or 50K miles
minus 20K for the TL
S10,500 plus TTL
I see TLs on autotrader for about 25K

If it was a better deal for your end, I'd say yes. I love the TL, I really do, but the V8 in the 550i is very impressive & has a LOT of kick in the mid-high rpms. Any other 5, I'd say no, but 50i is as close to as a M5 is you're going to get through BMW.

No offense to everyone here, but u r posting on a forum where everyone will side with acura, if u posted this on a BMW forum they would tell u to jump on it.
well im here to provide facts.
your TL-s fair manheim (dealer auction value) is $21,xxx and thats based on no accident history, i mean yea u dont have it reported to carfax but it is very easy to tell when a car has a repainted panel.
the 550 fair manheim 24500, add for auction fees, 25000 add for extended warrantee, easily 27000.
are you getting a fair deal? its what a dealer would like
is a 550 a better driving experience? yes, more power, more luxury, and it is a BMW
depreciation from this point? both vehicals about the same
numbers u should offer? tell em you want 21,000 for the TL and you are willing to go as high up as 27,500 on the 550.
and hey at the end of the day u can sleep knowing the car in your driveway has original panels
well im here to provide facts.

And the majority of people here no longer own an Acura; some are hoping for a light at the end of the tunnel; and some are here simply for the Rambling section.

P.S.- Nice rims on the Benz, they match my font.
IMO, you should sell it privately rather than trading it in because you're taking a big hit in the wallet right now, and shop around a bit because I have seen cheaper 550i's floating around on CGL and autotrader etc. even with warranties on them.
Good luck though.

I still would say yes get the bmw but no do not pay that much for it and do not throw away money by trading the TL in to the dealer.
If you are rich and don't care then do it.

Well i'll be here to provide you some facts, its in car talk..where the majority of people don't even own Acuras anymore such as yourself. Also, its in OP's best financial interest to keep the TL-S at this point. The 550i is not being ruled out, this just isn't the best way to acquire it.
P.S.- Nice rims on the Benz, they match my font.

thanx for the compliment on the wheels, they r donz 3pc forged custom painted to match my car.
as for the price as u can see as i posted, i never said go for it, i suggested some number that do make sense, not at the prices he is being offered. and in my opinion a vehical that has had 15k in repairs, i just couldnt feel comfortable in it, and this is coming from me as a bodyshop owner, its never as good as original. thats the only reason i recommend he pulls the trigger at those numbers i gave him, as for TL's i love em, n i deff miss mine, but i mean driveability wise, BMW and if the numbers r right, y not.

That seems like a very high price for that BMW...if you do get it, WARRANTY WARRANTY WARRANTY!!!!! for as long as you own it. Electrical issues and other bull-ish on that car can be a nightmare...

No offense but If the shop was competent you would never be able to tell if a panel was repainted. Come tell me which panel i repainted in my garage on my car, i can promise you you wont be able to.

I've seen very good work when I was a buyer but 9/10 times, you can tell if you look for paint lines, dust and orange peel.
And if you're cool, you can get a paint meter too.
If I saw more than a bumper and a quarter painted, I'd keep walking. I don't want that sh1t.

$15,000 in repairs off an accident is a fair chunk of change. I don't think the dealership is being ridiculous for offering you what they are offering for your TL. (Imagine what they'd give you if they saw the repair history on CarFax/AutoCheck)?
And if you're selling it in the BM here on AZine, with this thread, i'm sure most ppl. will stay far away from your ride knowing it had $15,000 in repairs made to it.
Good luck with your decision.

DO IT!!! E60 Trumps the TL by a landslide.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

But first get a better price for the e60. 36K is ridiculous for a 07 e60, I've seen those go for as low as $25K. The value for the e60 is tanking right now, more so when the F10 hits the sales floor.

The repair was done by Martino Auto Concepts who only do high end work on ferrarris, lambos, maseratis, etc.
The car also has full B2B warranty. It was a low speed impact (<5 mph) and it's not like airbags were ever deployed or anything of that nature.
Not to mention the free oil changes. I think the price I am asking for is still below what I can get and is MORE than fair with the included accessories.
Here it is in the black market w/ pics and all:

While 90% of people won't be able to tell on a completely random car, assuming they did a "good job".... its mostly because they don't know what to look for. My sister got into an accident with her ES350 and after she went to the body shop, from 15-20 feet away in broad daylight I couldn't tell crap. But once I got up close and carefully checked, I could tell that the car got sandwiched. She was surprised that I knew and even when I pointed out the differences to her she still couldn't tell. That said, I think they did a great job.
Cars can just never be the same after an accident, depending on the severity and despite being able to notice the difference most of the time, I wouldn't nitpick if the fender-bumper alignment was off by 1 mm or if the shade of paint was off at a certain angle when it wasn't before. Old paint changes with exposure to the elements.

I didn't even know what orange peel was until they showed it to me on my TL (pre-accident)
Even they've told me how good the TL now looks (after bodywork). I went to the bodyshop they recommended. Of course for anyone who isn't familiar with their caliber of work or experience won't care.
