This is something that can happen to any car company, including Honda.

And there are folks who have had multiple transmission issues on their Acuras. Every brand has their problems. Granted, you'll never catch me in a Land Rover since it seems most of their vehicles are about as reliable as a two-timing skank.

Eh. Good points. I just really dislike Hyundai's.

that is your opinion which is good. Despite the problems we had with the one hyundai we owned we have very good luck with the other hyundais we owned. They went over 100,000 miles. My mom's 08 accord transmission was replaced under warranty (defective). Our honda was a POS. I would still consider buying another Honda. You are still young and hopefully you will be able to buy the cars you want and enjoy. Just be safe and happy new year.

My mom's Lexus took a trip on the tow truck just a few weeks ago. My Hyundai hasn't been perfect but it's still doing better than the RX300...man that thing has been a piece of junk and a serious disappointment. Not a year goes by that it doesn't require at least $4,000 in either repairs or maintenance. Next time it holds out its hand asking for more, it's gonna get dropped like an AIDS infected hooker.

I'd get rid of the RX before it takes another dump. At least so you can get something out of it.

Funny you mention that...I've had a couple awkwardly long cranks on my 135i already and the fucker only has ~700 miles on it.

Suffice to say I have high expectations for both a mechanical and financial disaster coming to a driveway and checking account near me soon!

And why is that? From the "i heard" about comments on forums or from vehicles of the past?

I wouldn't necessarily indict a whole car brand over this. There's another thread on here concerning an M3, are those BMW's in the same league as this Hyundai? No.

OP: If it sounds like your engine was starved of fuel, could it have been the gas? Something in the gas tank that worked its way to the fuel pump? If the gas was poor quality, it could have caused this.

Sorry to hear this Andrew, hoping it was just a fluke and that your ecu or whatever has corrected itself and that you won't run into anything again, next time you may not be so lucky. Be safe out there bro

It's another thread like this that makes me think Hyundai quality is still lacking.

Give Hyundai another 5 years.

I'm not sure I'd be giving BMW any props for their reliability. In general are they in a different league than Hyundai, I'd say yes. When it comes to reliability I don't see much of a difference, I might even give Hyundai the advantage.
