TOV TL'04 crash test

2004 TL Crash tested by IIHS today. A TOV'er was there!

Credibility Rating: N/A

TOV member rwr4a was on hand today to witness the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety's high speed crash testing of the 2004 Acura TL. Tomorrow they will be testing the 2004 Acura TSX. Here are his photos and comments:

Jeff - you don't know me, but I am a Honda nut and

frequent visitor to TOV. I live in Charlottesville,
VA, which is just down the road from the Insurance
Institute for Highway Safety. Anyway, I went to the
high-speed crash of the TL this morning and snapped a
few pictures...and thought maybe about sharing them
with TOV readers. Overall, the TL did well. There
appeared to be good energy absorption up front, and
deformation of the occupant compartment was minimal.
I didn't stick around to see the dummy sensor data,
but that will be released with their evaluation
sometime soon.

hmm i'm a bit surprised to see the hood cracking the windshield in the lower driver side corner. Also is that the gas door open in the first pic?

Thats a high speed off center crash with the impacrt point on the drivers side front corner. Any car would have significant damage after an impact like that, but the crash is not to assess car damage, but how much intrusion there is on the passenger cabin, and how much injury could occur.

From these pics outside the car, it looks like the car did very well.

Crumble crumble crumble; long as the passengers are safe and no body damage occurs at under 5 mph, the government is happy.

remember the days in the 80's when you got in a wreck the whole car was fawked up.now front end collisions are able to walk away as long as the seatbelt was worn.
