totaled CL=dead driver

I didn't do a search, hopefully this isn't a repost or old news. A couple weeks ago while watching tv, the news broke into regular programming to show a fatality involving a broward sheriff. Found out later that the driver was killed and 2 18 year old passengers were critically injured. The cops also found a gun and drugs on board.

When I saw this shot from the helocopter, I said to myself that looks like a CL. I have DVR and back it up and checked carefully, and yes, it is a 2nd Gen CL. I took this picture of it on the tv, so the clarity isn't the greatest, but it is what it is. Was this person on this board? The wreck happened in Coral Springs Florida.

Well, when you hit something enough to crack the car in two, right where the driver's door is, I don't think any car is built strong enough to protect you...

the size of that pole is like the size of a 200 year old redwood and just as solid. it was estimated the driver was travellin in excess of 80 mph running from johnny long arm. They also want to blame the sheriff department for the accident because of a chase through a residential area/school zone while the school zone was active. this happened early in the morning.

Aren't those poles designed to snap off their bolts so as to not do precisly this?

Wow... that just looks terrible. These cars are pretty safe, too. But an offset crash like that definitely fuck you up.

Ummm telephone poles are deep as shit in the ground to withstand high winds, car impacts etc.

considering it doesn't look like that pole is holding anything of any major importance it would seem like it staying up might not be such a huge deal...

Wow that's a pretty fucked up accident.

All I know is that my 03 CL-S took a head-on impact and I walked away. The CL and the car that hit me were both totalled, but I walked away with a sore neck and a check from the insurance company. If I thought Honda/Acuras weren't safe I wouldn't have bought another one

It seems like a lot of CL's/TL's split in half. Search for other fatal CL accidents in this forum an you'll see that this isn't unique.

I agree, but I am thinking that that pole is not a telephone pole, but a sign pole. See the sign attached to the horizontal pole?

If that is the case, then those poles are specifically designed to break away from their bases when struck.

I had a similar conversation (re: sign pole construction) with my wife over the weekend.

Terrible 'accident.'
