"Firebird" is cool, "Camaro" sounds like a tropical bug or disease.

At least Chevy didn't name the F-car a "Chevette"...

Yeah, the Pontiac Aztek was a fine vehicle.

Yeah that one we're used to now, but when they came out in 1999 I remember wondering what was up with that. I guess they were trying for some kind of play on words with "escalate", like as in "escalate your lifestyle"....er sumthin ....at least Navigator makes sense for that kind of vehicle. Lincoln fails with Aviator, though - I'm sorry, I test drove one, it was not able to take flight

Isuzu Axiom....saw one today and thought of this thread....axiom is defined as: "A principle that is accepted as true without proof."
....seems like an odd name for an SUV....

The word Camry comes from the Japanese word Kamuri (spelling?) which means Royal Crown.

"Integra" was I'm sure meant to imply integrity, or maybe integration.

Combo of "diamond" and Cadillac's "Elegante" maybe?? Someone thought it sounded good I guess. I had one in the 90's and it was a really nice car, and even though I didn't keep mine long enough to find out, seems they were well built, too, because a guy at work had one he bought brand new in '92 and drove it daily up until last year when he bought a new Tundra Limited. That's a loooong time to stay committed to one vehicle...

I always thought Pinto was a funny name for a car. I know it is referring to the horse but I always thought of the bean.

VW has some bad ones: Phaeton, Touareg, and Passat isn't all that great either.

That new Suzuki Sedan, Kizashi?

And one I'm partial too: MERKUR XR4Ti - What was Ford thinking?

AMC Gremlin: Who needs gremlins in their car

GM Impact: Really? What's next the Chrysler Collision, final name of EV1 only slightly better.

Mercury Merkur: the proper German pronunciation: "mare-coor" huh?

Ford Pinto: I know a Pinto is a pony, but it's also a BEAN

And what the hell was Cadillac thinking with rebadging the above "Citation", adding leather, and calling it a Cimmaron?

would have been a better name.

There was never a Caddy version of the X car (Citation/Skylark/Omega/Phoenix).
The Cimarron was based on a Cavalier sedan, but with all the changes (V6, suspension upgrades, etc.) it ended up effectively a leather-lined "4 door Z/24".

Nova in Spanish, of course, means doesn't run. That's a great name for a car!

And the Toyota MR2 in French sounds like merde (M aiR-Deux) which means shit. Not such a hot name.

"Look I just bought a new Toyota Shit!"

LaCrosse in French Canadian sounds like the slang for blow job.

I like Subaru BRAT, too. They should have brought back the name for the Baja.

(Brat cannot be too bad of work--I just read that Bratz dolls have sold to the tune of $2 billion).

Thanks. I'm not up on the GM bodies from the 80's. Most of those were F for F'ed bodies due to rust. But I think the J body was the Buick GN/Pontiac Grand Prix/Olds Cutlass/Chevy Monte Carlo. Whatever those were, they were good cars.

For bad names, well, Subaru has a car named Pleo. What the f!@# is Pleo? Drive in traffic here and all of the Engrish on the backs of the cars would kill you.

J-bodies were Cavalier, Sunbird/Sunfire, and the ever-hated Cimarron.
