Top 10 hippest vehicles for 2005

Hopefully not a repost.

Top 10 hippest vehicles for 2005.

1. Dodge Magnum
2. Chrysler 300
3. BMW 6
4. Toyota Prius
5. Mini Cooper
6. Ford GT
7. Scion xB
8. Ford Escape Hybrid
9. Honda Element
10. PT Cruiser convertible

Full story here

Interesting that Chrysler has 3 vehicles on that list. I've felt for a long time that their designs are absolutely top-notch, it's just their quality that is lacking. But quality, reliability, longevity aren't really important factors of 'hipness' are they?

Fixed now. Not sure what happened, it looked fine right after I posted it, but on a refresh a bunch of text was missing. Weird.

I was about to link it to your other thread that was closed. https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16536 maybe there was a glitch and it posted your thread twice.

IMO w/ all the hype of the Magnum/300 that they aren't cool? You can barely go 15 min. of watching TV w/o hearing about a Hemi or a manley wagon. Were people impressed the first 500 times they saw the cars? Probably, now its like seeing a Civic to me. The 6 series on the other hand, I've never seen one. And I'll probably never see a Ford GT.

Hippest on there are the xB and Mini Cooper S, very unique, and still rare. They're cool enough for people to know about them w/o a million ads.

And the PT Cruiser convertible is a lesbo car, how can that be hip? In SF maybe.

I think the fact that they used the word "hippest" in the article immediatley negates any conclusions the article comes to.

On a side not I am a huge fan of the Magnum. Man if they made it in a stick i would really consider getting it. black, hemi, tinted windows....

Edmunds is a big fan of arbitrary lists. Wasn't the TSX named one of their 10 best (hmmm.. where does that come from?) "road trip" vehicles? A van, limosine, or big-ass sedan is a good road trip vehicle, not a sport sedan with a firm suspension

I saw one and almost threw up. Lucky there wasn't a Z4 behind it because then there would have been no way to hold it in.

But I almost agree with every other car on the list, except the Escape Hybrid. Green, yes but Hip?

I've see a few, including the convertibles, and the only color it is bearable in is black at night since you can't see anything. Otherwise, it more or less resembles a big .

It's the GT (they aren't allowed to use the GT40 moniker)

And as far as being "hip". I think they're referring more to the crowd who need to have their hips replaced. These choices pretty much scream either old fart or mid-life crisis.

Because someone else owns the rights to "GT40" Can't remember who, but he wanted something like 40 mil from Ford to give it up and Ford balked and rightfully so.

I think the PT cruiser convertible is down right vomit inductive. And i love the 6 series. I dont see why it would be a hippy car? Do they make speical hippy mobiles to have a hacky sack holder?

The only one I really like on that list is the Mini Cooper. It's 'hip' because its design has withstood the test of time - all the others are like trends and fads, with the possible exception of the Prius and Ford GT, but then those were not designed to be 'hip' cars.

The PT Cruiser convertible was a total throw-in-to-piss-people-off.

They would be better off with something else... like a Z?

OK, I realize that if there's an inverse to "hipness" then I'm it, but here's my take on the list from the "Would I actually spend my own money on one" perspective:

1. Dodge Magnum - Yep. Definitely.
2. Chrysler 300 - Pass. Looks good, not good enough to own.
3. BMW 6 - Pass. I actually like the looks, could never justify the cost.
4. Toyota Prius - Pass. I'll hug my trees in private, thanks.
5. Mini Cooper - I'd buy the 'S' for my daughter, borrow it for AutoX on weekends.
6. Ford GT - Pass. Too spendy. Also it's more "Whoa" than "cute" and doesn't belong on the list.
7. Scion xB - Pass. Too weird for words. N/A in Canada anyway.
8. Ford Escape Hybrid - Pass. Too small to be a useful SUV. See also 4.
9. Honda Element - Pass. Have to admit I like these more than I thought, just wouldn't own one.
10. PT Cruiser convertible - Pass. Unless the lesbians come with it.
