The TL's greatest victory yet...
04/27/2006 approximately 6:40pm. Lexington, KY.
A TL dusts a Carrera GT
Haha, long story. Comin home after a long day, and I hear this banshee like wail, as I'm a few hundred yards from my house. A Carrera GT whipped by. Now, I'm sure you guys over in Cali see them a dime a dozen but over here in KY,I've only seen one to date. We pull up abreast at a stoplight a couple hundred yards down the road, and I roll down the window, and tell the guy what a BEAU-TI-FUL car he has. He smiles, and then we talked for a minute or so. Apparently he lives in an adjacent neighborhood from where I live. I chided him for not taking the roof off, but he said that it was kinda "windy".
Anyways, light turns green and within less than 20-30 yards there's another light that's already red. We pull up abreast again. And I couldn't resist.
Dropped the TL into 1st, gave it a slight rev. He acknowledge and revved and held it there as if ready to dump the clutch. The light was located such that as soon as it turned green we had to take a sweeping 3 lane left turn and then straight the rest of the way. Well the light turn green, I chirped the TL off the line and hung tight around the corner, expecting to see the GT just blast by and wail. Into second and upto 40ish mph, and I look in my side mirror and see the GT somewhat BEHIND! All i think of is that the car is somewhat hard to launch because of it's uber light clutch and drivetrain - see this link (scroll down to the part about launching the gt)

Also another possibility is that the guy was just trying to take it easy through the turn.
Anyways, kinda surprised i dabbed the brakes a bit at around 40ish, and then I heard it - a downshift and then what sounded like a cross between a screaming jet engine and motorbike - i didn't even bother touching the gas. He just WAILED by. I was too mesmerized by the sound that thing made. It is seriously an F1 motor for the street.
Followed him for a bit in traffic, and man did the motor sound HOT! The car really does look as good as it does in the pics.
End of story. Couldn't take any pics cause my cell had a dead battery (some weird luck huh?)

He couldn't have been trying... it would be nice to say that a $35K Acura beat a $$$ Porsche GT but we can dream.
And I have never seen one of those so consider youself lucky because they are extremely rare!

oh boy....... are you sure you're not talking about a regular Carrera (325hp 0-60: 4.8secs)
The Carrera GT you're talking about has 605hp 0~62 at 3.9secs. If it was really a Carrera GT, he was just letting you have some fun.

The Carrera GT wasn't trying dude.
As fast as the current TL is and the TL is one of the fastest luxury family sedans I've driven. But, if the driver in the Carrera was trying, you'd be seeing his exhausts instead.

Even with a bad launch, the GT should eat the TL for lunch, put it in reverse, drive 3 circles around it, stop to refuel and continue on it's way.
You know a thread is going downhill when it has more red than this smiley

thats all i was trying to say. He was just letting me have my fun through the turn and then let her rip. You guys really need to lighten up. Not in a million years would a bone stock TL even think of "beating" a $440000 Carrera GT. Like I said, the guy was a nice guy, who happened to live in my neighborhood, and was impressed that I actually knew what the car was about about instead of just saying "nice car man".

I also mentioned that it looked like the guy was just letting me have my (short-lived) moment of glory before opening that beast up.
you shouldn't mess with the lead singer of social distortion, he will ban you!

I'm inclined to agree with letting me have a head start b4 lightin her up.
Either way, the sound that thing made was incredible. I've never heard anything quite like it.

He could have just put the car in park and still would have pulled away.
