very closely matched IMO. TL more luxurious and classy looking. Max sportier looking, both blend a good deal of performance, looks and practicality. Both are great cars.

3rd Gen TL > new Maxima.

With all those transmission problems, I'd pick a Maxima over a 2nd generation TL.

, I'd take any 2G-3G TL over the new Maxima any day. Outside of the powertrain, the 6G Maxima does NOTHING for me.

That's what 3 transmissions in almost 6 months did to me...now I'm picking the Maxima over the auto Acura

The 3rd gen transmissions are fine. But why would you want an auto anyway?

I'd pick the 3G TL over the new Maxima any day. Forget about the 2G though.

I can't get over how fugly they made the Maxima. The 5G Maxima was so much nicer looking. It looked like a car, not a bubble on wheels with hand fans for taillights!

I agree 2002-2003 max's were hot, 6G max's are ugly. Doesn't make sense why Nissan devoted so much time with the altima's redesign that they neglected the Max's, which is the pinnacle of Nissan. They said well we already spent too much time and money on the altima, we will use same frame and just rework the sheetmetal a little bit. It might have worked had they not made it look like more of a bubble than the altima. I am sure they will redesign the body soon.

Your sig is so big that I thought it was part of your post.

The Maxima is getting revised this year which will be shown at the upcoming auto shows. Should be as big of an improvement as the 05 altima upgrade - design, materials, quality, maybe some power...

When my dad's TL was in the shop being fixed, he got a Maxima as a rental. It was a nice car all around but can't really touch the TL in my opinion. They really aren't in the same class.

The interior was WAY cheaper, the handling wasn't as good, and the seats weren't nearly as supportive. In terms of the navi, I can't say much but Acura Navigation is said to be the class leader. I've driven with Nissan/Infiniti navi (birdseye) and I didn't care for it but that has a lot to do with personal preference. The engine was torquey but above 60 mph, it had NOTHING!!!

The previous gen Maxima was SO much better looking and more worth the money. They all came standard with HID's but the new one's don't... doesn't make much sense to me.

I also hate the new dual exhaust look on the 6G max's. The little dual outlets on each exhuast tip is very Grand Amish, looks stupid IMO. The car would look much better with singular 3.5-4" chrome tips. The faux fast back is awful and the fact that a V6 altima 6speed is faster than a Max 6spd is retarded. Hopefully the 7G max will look hotter and get more power so it is at least a tick faster than the altima. Don't get me wrong the Maxima is still a very good car and I wouldn't feel bad about driving an 02-03 6speed at all.

It has to do with the HID-theft that plagued the 02-03 Maxima here in the Northeast.

I prefer the TL, but the Maxima offers a choice of XM or Sirius, power tilt/telesoping wheel, power folding side-view mirrors, rear heated seats, 18" wheels from the factory, cornering lamps and auto up/down on all windows.

I've had both so here is my comparison. (04 Max, 05 TL)

Handling and Torque steer
-------------------------
Handling goes to the TL, the Maxima feels like a boat. I'll never do things in the Maxima that I've done in the TL. I feel real comfortable taking curves in the TL without slowing down, never in my Maxima.

The Maxima has much more torque steer than the TL. I've had a 5AT Maxima and now have a 6MT TL, and I still say the the AT Max has more Torque steer than the 6MT TL. One of the reasons I started to hate the Max, the amount of torque steer was just unacceptable.

Rims
---------------------------
Maxima has bigger and better looking factory rims then the TL.

Interior look/feel
----------------------------
The TL beats the Maxima in interior look in almost every category. The Maxima has a lot of cheap touches, like that ugly swede crap that runs along the doors and dash. the center console of the Maxima looks different, but its appeal wears off quickly. The Maxima's leather seats are nice though.
The TL's interior is well put together, everything seems to flow together and no cheap touches, nearly everything is where its supposed to be and the seats are pretty comfortable. The huge touch screen navi is a big plus too.

Space
---------------------
The Maxima seems to have a little more interior room than the TL, but that is not really of a concern for me, since I'm always in the drivers seat. Also the Maxima has a bigger trunk and fold down rear seats. Again not really a concern for me. But fold down is a plus.

Sound System
----------------------------
Comparing CD to CD, The Maxima's BOSE system seems to be a little better than the Acura TL's system. Though its very close. DVD-A vs the Max's BOSE system would go to the Acura I am pretty sure.

Exterior
----------------------------
TL wins this department hands down. Other than the rims, the TL looks so much better than the maxima. Aggressive/smooth look. looks fast standing still. The Maxima's 4 exhaust tips look pretty sweet, but so does the Acura's square dual exhaust.

Winner: The TL is the clear winner here. I don't regret getting rid of the Maxima.

I like the Maxima. I had to choose the Maxima over the TSX and went with the TSX. I would do the same with the TL.

I'm in the market for a new car and both cars have been on my "wish list" Looks like the Max may be removed...
The one thing about the Max SL that really bothers me is the faux wood around the shifter along with the silver plastic around the radio/navi. All wood or all silver plastic, both together in one cabin does not work for me.
I realize the TL has this as well, but at least I can get it without the fake wood...

as someone else said, the only thing the maxima has going for it is it's engine. the exterior is ugly and bulbous, and interior is laughable. there is no contest.

No doubt I'd pick the Maxima over TL anyday. The Maxima can be optioned beyond the TL, and it has full power for everything, telescoping and heated steering wheels, sunshade, all auto down windows and etc. Also the 4 seater elite package just blows the TL away in passenger comfortness, since the rear seats are heated as well.

Maxima > any generation TL

Maxima > any generation TL

Interesting commentary.

The Maxima does have a lot of good options. Power folding side-view mirrors, too.

Accordingly, it'll be priced beyond the TL as well. (i.e.: loaded SE Elite pkg @ ~$38.5k )

those options are shit! power folding side mirrors? heated steering wheel? all auto down windows(big deal), sunshade, huh? heated rear setas is cool. 38.5k for a Maxima? No way. The 6G max is ugly 5.5G rules!
