My dad has the RSX-S and he could blow my ass away any day, but he has about 3-4 decades of driving experience on me, too.

My husband has RSX-S and I think I could blow him away in my 5AT TL . . .

UMMMMM 6MT will destroy all those cars hands down. If an RSX-s beats you it means you cant drive ... well maybe it means u cant race but whats the difference?

the IS300 has avg acceleration for this class but tops out at 143mph; both the 5AT and 6MT TL should have no problem with any stock IS300

the RSX-S only comes 6MT and tops out at about the same speed as the IS300. (even the soft ES330 can probably outperform it in a straight line)

the top end on a 6MT TL is 152mph (Car & Driver) and would destroy a 6MT RSX-S @ anypoint in straightline acceleration. But a 5AT vs RSX-S contest would be MUCH closer.

the 1.8T Golf/Jetta/Beetle need some assistance from Autothority (read: mods) before it can come close to competing with all of the forementioned.

I have a 03 Type S, and a 04 TL... Hands down the TL is faster then the Type S, only if it's a stock Type S, or one that has a lil mod to them, but a S with just intake, exhaust and headers, is faster then a TL.

The best way to see if 5at is fast is to race it against a 6mt. Two people with a 6mt and a 5at should take it to the track and race.

It clearly depends on who you ask on this board. Some people are talking about straight line while others answer the question with turns and braking as part of the picture.

you do mean straight line right? the 6MT is in heritently faster because there is less drive train loss meaning more power to the wheels and closer gear ratio because there is one extra gear. but after that its all up to the driver to get it right. on the track its a whole another story. the driver becomes the biggest factor when it comes to lap times. but again the 6MT does have a slight advantage in that it has larger sway bars that will give it less body roll and lsd which can help in cornering.

Unless your husband is in some way impaired I doubt it.

Manual potential

There is less driveline power loss in a manual because of the direct hookup of the manual clutch but it is minimal. In the hands of someone who knows how and when to shift for max accelleration, the 6MT is slightly faster- but not as much as their owners would like you to believe. The 5AT is not slow and it doesn't miss shifts.

Also, when you turn off the VSA, the 6MT still has an LSD (limited slip differential). The 5AT, when VSA is on, will cut power if there is a lot of wheels spin (and there will be) and may even apply the brakes to a spinning wheel. This is counter-productive in a race so most of us will turn off the VSA under those circmstances. At that point, we are without traction control and are winging it by the seat of our pants.

Learning the best way to shift the 5AT is also a matter of trial and error. Some here have said they shifted at 6,000 RPM and lost a race. That's understandable because they missed the fat part of the power curve and were down too low in the next gear. In Sport Shift mode, you can hold the gears until readline and a little more before the rev limiter kicks in. You don't want that to happen (rev lim).

The only way you can hold first gear to the max is to start out in L on the auto side and then switch to SS for 2nd, 3rd. When you are redlined in 3rd, you are doing about 98 MPH and are at the end of a quarter mile. 4th will take you to 150MPH with another gear to go. (see your owner's manual).

It is here that the 6MT has another potential slight advantage because of one more gear to keep it in the sweet spot. Both engines have the same horsepower.

I use the word "potential" because in the 6MT, in inexperienced hands, that potential may not be fulfilled.

Either one should take care of the cars you mentioned with no problems if they are stock. (IMO)

It's funny how the 6mt owners think that the 5at is slow. So slow that even an RSX-S can beat it. They think that standard transmissions are the fastest. The auto transmissions these days are very advanced. Don't underestimate them.
I'm not dissing on the 6mt. I love the 6mt.

Has anyone actually raced a RSX-S against a 5at TL before?
I had in my 2k1 Maxima though. My Maxima was bone stock 4at. I beat the RSX-S by 1 car length. Maybe the driver couldn't drive. But he knew what he was getting into. Now I do not street race.

Imagine what a 2004 TL can do.

Yeah, but in the 6MT you also have to take your foot off the gas pedal three times before you get to fourth gear.

don't underestimate the new K-series motors, cuz people don't usually race until they top out their cars speed... that's dangerous and stupid.

i raced a RSX-S.We both were at a light, the moment the light turned green he kinda got on it but wasnt really sure if i was and i did the same and at that moment i just punched it(i was already in 2nd SS and it shift back down then to 2nd again)and he did to(it was funny the we half started not sure but then realized what the other intended and just floored it)and he pulled ahead about a 1/2 of car lenght and when i hit 3rd i started to pull real steady to the point where i was like 2 cars ahead and still pulling steadily(not hard)anyways i bounced off the limiter and shut it down.Reality if it was from a stand still and he really punched it off the line i think i would of one by 1 car lengh(by the end of 3rd) which isnt really much but street start thats diffrent.oh ya it was a begining of a HWY.

A couple of things,

1. There is no such thing as a RSX-S auto it only comes with a six speed.
2. I have raced an S and killed him he had no idea what he was dealing with. ( he had a CAI and an exhaust)
3. I have a 04 Tl six spd (stock)
