sorry about the car, but the best part of "i hit a deer" threads is hearing how high, how fast and what direction the deer flew in.

years ago I had a stoner kid come in and tell the tale of him hitting a deer, the highlight was when he said, "and I hit the deer and it popped right up, like toast coming out of a toaster."

This car is jinxed....fix it and get a new one .

Kidding. Glad you're OK. I was with my buddy last night and a deer ran out in front of us at about 50mph in his truck. He slammed on the brakes and swerved... the deer maneuvered too and we heard a thud, but it was light. We pulled over and checked... no damage on his truck. Circled back, no deer. We were all lucky!

sorry to see that. could have been worse though.

We drove by a massive bull elk last night on the way to the beach. He was just standing on the side of the road. Beautiful and scary as shit at the same time. This thing was the same size as a horse. You wouldn't want to hit an elk.

Definitely not going to touch anything in there.
Does the buzzing sound eventually go away? The reason why I ask is because when my headlights come on they make a high pitch buzz and then it eventually subsides. If that is the case, then that is normal and I imagine that you can hear it more now that the plastic is broken.

Hey guys, just a quick update.

Showed the car to the guy who fixed the semi damage last night. We opened the hood and found that the plastic right behind the headlights is broken, so along with that the hood, bumper, headlight, and grille need replaced. Good news is the fender can be fixed.

He's writing up the offical quote tomorrow so I should get the ball rolling on the insurance and stuff soon.

I took some pictures during the day today that I'll post tomorrow so you can see it a little better. Thanks again for all the well wishes!

Um no it was a solid hit...it was just that I hit the front of him instead of the side of him like a normal deer/car impact.

Exactly how this was. He went flipping straight up as my car went under him.

It was on for about 3 seconds. I don't know though...this was loud as hell. Made me stop and go WTF when I first heard it.

Dude you got off way easy. When I worked at a Land Rover dealership, these people hit a deer with one of our loaner LR3s and it deployed the airbags! That really shocked me that a deer would set off the airbags in a 5,000+ pound Land Rover. I think the total damage was $6,000 because it did a real number on the headlights, grille, and front edge of the hood.

Glad you're okay, though.

airbags are real expensive too, they probably added a lot to the damages

Damn that would've really sucked. I'm surprised they didn't crash again after the airbags blew.

I wonder if they would've totaled my car if the deer rolled up and over the car and damaged the hood and trunk and some other stuff.

One in the S10 in my thread and my Grand Prix. Ive been fortunate so far with the TL. I think the Deer out number humans 2 to 1 by our cottage. One guy we know up there has managed to hit somewhere in the realm of 27 of them. He as recently as last year hit one driving home from the dealer with a loaner after dropping his car off to be repaired from hitting a deer I wont get in the car with him.

Update:

Got an estimate yesterday. Just over $2,600 total.

Hood: $500
Headlight: $250
Bumper: $150
Grille: $150

Among others.

Insurance is looking at it right now actually so hopefully he can start on it this weekend

Daylight pic as promised:

Plastic piece that needs replaced:

Oh and I heard and saw that "buzzing" noise from the headlight again. As soon as the light turns on that broken bulb shoots a blue 2-inch arc out. It only lasts for a second or two though then it's fine

Phoned Acura Canada...they said they would get back to me this week; they will review the case with the dealership but they said the cost is entirely in the dealership's hands...

It sounds like I'm SOL...I'll be getting a quote on Friday.
