Thoughts On Carmax
I'm going to possibly buy my dream 2003 Tl S Black at Car Max today.
63K $ 17, 800. Has anyone had problems with Car Max.
Do you think the price is ok? Ya can't haggle there.
Car doesn;t have the nav. I'd like to have that.
thanks

We don't have Carmax up here in MA (closest one is in CT), but the price seems ok. I don't believe in the no haggle bs... I haggle everywhere, on any big ticket item.
If you really want navi, I'd wait to find something with navi... much easier to buy a car with navi then trying to put it in a non-navi car
There are lots of 2003 Acuras out there... the lease term is 39 months on acura... 2003 +39 months, well, you do the math... there's a lot of 2003 acuras out there on the used car market. I'm sure you can find exactly what you want...
I'm big on buying exactly what you want... even if it costs a little more (that's why I bought my CLS brand new instead of settling for something less then what I wanted).
The memebers over on the 2G TL board will probably have valuable opinions on pricing:

The price seems about right on. At least for Cali prices. I paid $17,500 for mine just a month ago. It too is a NBP 03 TL-S but w/ Navi which was a requirement for me. It also has a factory spoiler and the chrome OEM TL-S rims. So I held out and got everything I wanted.
I would just keep looking if I was you.

Safety Car
Some people not happy . . .
with them and my wife's law office sued them a few years back for shady dealings.

If you want a nav car, wait for a nav car. There's a used car dealership 10 minutes off campus and there are 7 TL's in front. So trust me, you'll find one. Patience is a virtue. But yea, you should probably come over to the 2nd gen board

I got my car from them a few months ago.
Their inspection covers the general stuff you'd expect -- clean interior, exterior, and mostly engine stuff. What they don't do is go the extra mile, i.e. find out what common nagging problems a model has and look for it. My car has a slightly crunchy 2nd gear, an SRS light that won't go away, and a sunroof frame rusting under the rubber trim. These were known problems with the model and year of the car I bought and I could have checked for these before getting the car, but ...
They said their warranty is pretty flexible -- if you take it to an approved repair center (e.g. dealer, hopefully) they'll cover the cost with a $75 deductible. I'm going to see soon exactly how flexible it is, and post updates.

I purchased my car from them and besides the high price (15k for an 01 tl with 110000 miles and a 16% interest rate) i was very happy. I was a first time buyer with no cosigner and they were pretty much the only place that could give me any sort of financing. Other than my tranny the car has been problem free!

I like going there on Sundays. The one by my place leaves about every 1 in 5 cars unlocked (they have a locked gate so I guess it doesn't matter), so it's fun to go and sit inside some of the cars and check them out without being bothered by the salesmen.

Another note: they munged up the paperwork when I bought my car, so my bank's on my ass. I can't believe I forgot to mention that I've been calling carmax to bitch at them every day for the past week.

we bought my brother's car there. My parents really liked it. We bought a 99' 4runner like 3 years ago. It was very competitively priced, and probably was the easiest buying experience we've had.
I guess some people like to haggle and do all the paperwork and everything (like my uncle who buys a NEW car every 3-6 months). But for my parents they loved the fact that from stepping onto the lot to driving off with a car only took an hour and a half.

note, if you buy from carmax, they just rely on the carfax reports, they don't check the paint thickness, see if it has been replained or anything of that nature. I'd reccommend just going to an acura dealer. If you were willing to drive to FL, there are like 5 03's with nav for like 18k OTD
