and also you dont have hood damper on your G? because i think mine has.....
My 07 G uses a hood prop rod, just like my TSX did... not really a deal breaker by any means, in particular with the G because there's not a whole lot to see.
The interior in the 07 is a major improvement over the previous G, that's why I ended up with a TSX over the G in 2004, now there is no comparison - IMO.

And for the price, it's very difficult to justify a 330, sorry JackieO.

I think it's a tastefully packaged midsized FR sports sedan with outstanding value.

I test drove one an '07 G35, and the first thing I thought of was "wow, this instrument cluster looks EXACTLY like my '06 TSX..." In fact, there were a lot of things that felt rather similar to the '06 TSX interior, like the silver trim lining the middle of the dashboard. Anyone else get that feeling?
I will say that the seats were bolstered significantly better than my TSX...

Was at the Detroit Autoshow yesterday (pics to follow) ... I sat in the new G for about 10 minutes to 'get a feel' of the navigation system (well, the other parts besides navigation). Buttons seem very intuitive. I do like the fact that you can toggle between US units and metric unit (ie importation from US -> Canada
) Seats comfortable but back seat is a little snug if the front passengers are tall ( > 6' ). All others who have mentioned the vast improvement to the interior -- that is all true. One pet peeve: the info center is still in orange
-- why go through all the transformation to the blue / white if you're gonna keep the stupid orange!
But ... being more familiar with the Acura environment, I would say the Acura interior / navigation is "better" in terms of every day use / ease of use.
Last point: on a value standpoint (features / price), I would say the current G is the value leader here. But it's the new kid on the block -- if it didn't, then Infiniti would be retarded to bring out a car that does not compete with the current competition. Just wait until 2009 (when the 4th gen TL comes out) and do the same comparison.
Each manufacturer will leap frog the other guys or else they will have made a catastrophic mistake in a very competitive (and lucrative) market segment.
Going back on-topic ... 20"s isn't going to make or break the deal for me. I'm not going to spend > $1000 just on tires.

This is the reason I was so disappointed in it. I still think that it is a great car and represents an awesome value, but I wish that Infiniti would not have played it so "safe" with the redesign.
However, that black one looks smokin' with those wheels!

If you look at the new G35 for a quick glance yes there really isn't that much difference in the overall bodystyle shape compared to the 1st gen.
Although I can tell the difference because of the different shaped headlights and the hood is cut out more noticeably than the 1st gen in the front end. From the side view it looks the same as the 1st gen, just this time there is no body side molding, and from the back view the only differences are the chrome strip and the dual exhausts.
Disappointed that Nissan/Infiniti didn't change the LED taillight pattern this time around to distinguish the older G35 with the new one. It still has the circular LED taillight pattern.
It would've been more funny and people would do a double take if the LED taillight pattern was triangular or rectangular.
The real difference is on the inside or "inner personality" of the new G35 now with the nicer interior ala TSX like, the cool screen, and the 306 hp.

The car looks like the M35/45 to me so this deisgn looks nothing new.
G35 does NOTHING for me and i still think the TL looks better.

I asked the sales guy why they put it in the trunk because he said that it saves dash space and will deter thieves.
Probably back in 1999 6 disc changer was expensive, but who would want to steal a 6 disc changer in 2007? I think thieves would want to steal an ipod or that 9 gig hard drive the G35 has unless that is in the trunk too?

The primary reason I went with an 2006 TL (which is a very fine car) is because I could buy it with everything (AT & Nav) for $32,000. The 2007 G35 loaded similarly was pricing out in the $38,000 - $39,000 range. I couldn't justify going an extra 20% in price of the cars...that's for me. As I have posted before if I was willing to go 20% over the regular TL for a G35 then why not go 25% over and get a BMW 335?
But, there is no question if I was going to decide to spend similar money on a TLS or a 07 G35. (I stress 07 because I am REALLY NOT a fan of the past G35 looks).
I took a look at the 07 G35 to see what all the fuss was about, last week and to be honest I was disappointed in the interior. It looked decent in the pics, but upon closer inspection, I noticed plenty of hard plastics used in areas such as the door panels (especially the part where your elbow would rest on the door) which is a big no-no for me. The lower console also used some hard plastics.
On the other handed, I actually like the texture of the Washi aluminum trim and the exterior has a smoother look. I just wish they had evolved it more, because I have a feeling that towards the end of the life cycle, this body is going to look dated next to some of the newer competitors.
I then visited the Acura dealership, to take a look a an 07 TL-S and the higher quality of materials used was immediately apparent. More soft touch surfaces everywhere, and what felt like better fit and finish overall.
MSRPs were the same for both cars.

i think the new g35 is gorgeous. and the interior is a vast improvement from the previous model. we'll see how it compares to the next gen tl, but i'd still say that the tl's interior has a better layout. i think it's one of the best layouts i've seen.
i also agree that the g35s looks better stock.
i can also tell when i see the new g35. it still has a similar body shape, but it looks sharper to me, and the front end looks meaner with the headlights (similar to the m
) and the back looks better with the dual exhaust (i didn't like how the previous gen had one). but i could do without the chrome strip.

See, I still think that's a retarded design choice. Why not mount the DVD player in the trunk and keep the CD changer in-dash (like Acura did)? It's such a PITA to change CDs before you drive off...
And before anyone says "just use your MP3 player", just remember that CDs still sound better than MP3s (even when using lossless codecs)...

Slap an "Acura" badge on a Yugo and he'll think it's the best "near-luxury" car out there.

I'm hoping this will be my next upgrade.
