Thinking of selling my car

I saw a similar thread, so I thought I'd ask for an azine opinion. I have an 07 TSX with about 10k miles on it, I've had it the past year and 4 months. The main reason I'm thinking of selling is because I just moved to philadelphia and don't have much need for a car (bus to work and stay in the city on weekends).

I can handle the monthly payments, but I feel like I shouldn't have a nice car in the city, especially since it's already been keyed, and it constantly is being bumper sandwiched with the parallel parkers. The main reason I'm having second thoughts on selling is because I bought it brand new and haven't had it too long, so I feel that I would regret taking the depreciation hit. BTW I owe about $16k on it.

I'd really like to trade for a smaller car, that I wouldn't care as much about. I've been looking around at used mini's, preludes, celicas, rsx's and other coupes. I could probably pay cash for the car, and save my monthly payment money for more fun things. As for losing out on the "acura" luxury, I currently only use the car once or twice a week, and also most girls my age couldn't care less what I'm driving, nor do I really.

After typing this up, I think I've already made up my mind... but a second opinion would be great, and any ideas on possible cars.

Clifs-

Live in city and don't really need a car
Thinking of selling, but afraid to take depreciation hit on 1 yr old car
Looking for used small coupe alternatives

Thanks for you opinions, cheers

Wow, girls in Philly must be very non-materialistic. But seriously, it sounds like you don't have an ego, so let the TSX go in peace, not that I think the TSX is an egomobile. As for replacements, I think the '09 Fit looks pretty sweet - great city car, cheap and lot's of useability.

I say trade it for a new Fit/Civic or other small car of your choice. That would make sense....You're not thinking oddly.

Now the girl issue...........

the hit on depreciation is temporary as compared to not having to make any car payments at all for the next 5 years!

Trade it in and get your self something a bit smaller and cheaper. No need to get that poor tsx banged up if your not even driving it but a couple days... hell just get a bike to ride around town in...

^ Agreed

Find cheap car and pay cash for it if you really NEED a car. Maybe go a couple of months without a car and see if its doable.

If i worked and lived in the city then i would most likely not want a nice car either, unless I had garage parking.

I'm planning on moving down to New York next summer. No way in hell will I take my car down there, I'm leaving it up in Massachusetts in my parents garage. On weekends when I want to go home, I'll either take a bus or ZipCar. If I were in your boat, I'd sign up for a ZipCar account... As their slogan says, it's "Wheels when you want them." Take a look!

You can probably get about $19k on a trade for the TSX and end up with $3k positive equity towards a new car since you still owe $16k. Course that's only by going with the info you've provided so far, so it's definitely not for sure. On the other hand, I don't know about Philly's market, but compacts are in high demand in Northern Cali. It's been hard getting dealers to budge much on pricing for both new and used compacts (Civics, Corollas, especially Fits). Unless it's a true beater, I wouldn't want to have a brand new Civic/Fit/etc. scuffed up in the city either.

Ever considered a cyclocross bike?
