Thinking GTO....

Thinking GTO....
I'm toying with the idea of buying a new 2006 Pontiac GTO. I know it's not a perfect car, but I'm finding it hard to resist 400 HP for less than $30,000 OTD. I would NOT trade in my TL but would get the GTO just for "fun."
Any thoughts?
Edit: 6-Speed MT only.

Have you driven one yet? Make sure you're comfy in it first. Then decide if you want to spend up to $30K on a depreciating asset [well, for the first decade- it may appreciate in value thereafter or go in the dumper]; assume it'll be worth about $15K in five years.
If you really like the car, your retirement is fully funded and have a comfy cash position, now is the time to do it.

Yep, It's not a bad car at all. If you can live with the crappy interior & you fit in it you'll be happy. I would not buy a new 1. I'd buy a used 1 & not take that big of a hit.
I really don't see it being a premium car after it's gone. It wasn't well liked or received & they didn't sell well. The power train is very common as well. It's not like it was some special made car. Add the fact it's already a car in other parts of the world under the holden name.

I'm with CLpower. I still regret getting rid of my 97 Z28. The GTO was on my list (I got an 06 G35 cause I needed 4 doors and RWD) but I had to have the luxo goodies.
You can't get a used C6 for teh same money as a new or used GTO, so there's not much comparison, especially if you need room for 4.
I too would buy it lightly used rather than new.
I would make sure to get one with the LS2 (400hp) and better looking dual outlet exhaust. Yes I know earlier cars were also true duals, but the routing was all wrong in the looks department!

My post was in no way meant to be dispareging towards the GTO. I like it, even though their not sold in Canada. I just think a Vette would make a better toy, which is what he needs. If it was his daily driver then by all means.
I wish the damn GTO was sold in Canada as I'll need a weekend toy that carries four. Not much out there in that category.

I was looking strongly at the G35C, evo, and STi. I drove them all and was set on the Sti. My wife MADE me drive the GTO.....I bought it 2 days later.

It helped that she HATED the STi and Evo, but she wasn't going to play a role in the decision of it

I had the same exact experience as CLpower and rmpage, except replace 'GTO' with 'CTS-V'. I NEVER considered the car while I was shopping the G35, M3 and S4. I happended to drive past the dealership and remembered some distant article in some magazine I may have read about some sort of fastish Cadillac. A week later I was taking it home. Those LSx motors may not be technology laden but displacement and torque just feel sooooo good!

I just went and looked at an '06 M6 with 12,000 miles on it. Cyclone Gray asking $27,500.
I'm going back later to take it for a test drive. Incidentally, it was setting next to a '05 G35C, which was almost the exact same color. The G was out of warranty and they wanted $1000 more for it
I'm starting to think that the opel platform with a corvette motor, assembled in Australia may be the greatest performance bargain of all time!
Standby for my ad in the BM........

And YES that is the exact same car I am looking at, it is flawless. They're asking too much, but dealers always open high.
14 MPG is tuff to swallow....

It's definitely a step above the F-body cars with chassis and suspension. The IRS has its ups and downs compared to a solid rear end in terms of performance under heavy throttle, but for everyday driving it should be a more civilized car.
