well now it's 3.43 for premium in the Chicago (suburbs). gas is always more expensive in the city of Chicago, which is why I never get gas downtown let alone drive downtown.

Don't give me that I can't afford Premium because it's $3.30+

If I can afford my gas everyweek with a dead end job that I'm at now, you shouldn't complain at all.

nissan versa, honda fit, civic hybrid...only cars like this will get you better mpg

id rather own a TSX and get 20mpg than a civic and get 30

and at least you have a car to complain about gas prices with...my transporation here sucks too, multiple connections and 2 hours of commute for 20 minutes of driving. i got no car so im forced to deal with that bullshit.

1) Get a scooter and keep the TSX. Rotate which one is used every other day, every 2 days, every week,.... whatever. That should help keep the cost of gas down.

2) Get a moutain bike and ride to school. You'll save gas *and* be in shape.

3) Carpool, if possible.

Aside from Europe, I've never seen anyone drive a scooter in Chicagoland.

my friend drives 2005 corolla LE automatic - 100% city and her mileage is between 23-25 mpg.

you will loose soo much more when you unload you TSX that it will take you years to even it out witht the mileage differance - no worth in my opinion, plus you will end up paying for repairs on older car sooner than you would on TSX.

good luck

I am thinking of replacing her with a beater around 10k. I want something light, and more fuel efficient, yet something that will fit my age. Is there such a thing?

All are appreciated

BTW I am not really into all modding, although I would like to try light performance mod in near future.
Personally i would keep the TSX. Its paid for, reliable, etc, I am surprised you are getting less than 20Mpg. Thats the worst i have ever heard for a TSX in city driving.

As far as trading the car for depreciation reasons, this does have some merit. The next generation TSX is due out next spring. The value of used 1G TSX are very good but this will obviously change come spring. The value of the cars will drop once a next generation car comes out, so you do have a point in this area.

Some people have mentioned hybrids, please dont fall for this untill you do some research. Its being proven more and more that diesel cars are getting much better real world results over hybrid cars and then you can still do light mods to the diesel like you said you might want to do. A good example is the new BMW/Mini diesel in europe. It gets better fuel consumption than a toyota prius and put out the exact same Co2 emissions. Why would you want a hybrid unless its a hybrid diesel....Hybrids have a long way to go yet IMO. (especially for the price of them)
