Thinking about getting a CF Hood

Hey guys, I'm considering the Seibon carbon fiber VT hood, it WILL be painted, but I'm considering leaving the side vents left unpainted ... what do you guys think? And no, keeping it ALL carbon fiber is NOT an option. It's not the look I'm going for...

Here is the original:

Here is a painted VT hood:

Here is the vents kept CF:

And the mesh will be painted black....

^ I HATE hood pins... it may be the only reason I won't get a CF hood... but do you guys think it's REALLY needed? I would hate to drive on the highway one day and have it fly off and smash my windshield.

Hood pins are for safety.

I dunno, your car is too clean for a hood with so much going on. Would look better if there wasnt that center part of it.

Oh and i like the look of the vents not painted.

I like the hood that is in Post #7 the best. It's still got the side vents, but the center section has a much cleaner look than the one with the hood scoop. I think the first one looks a bit too rice

I think that would be too over the top, and ruin the smooth lines you already have, IMHO

I dont like it with your car...its really clean right now. This is a little too aggresive IMO. Do they make CF copy of the OEM hood?

Yes they do, and it's cheap. But I dont like the look of CF on that much of an area.... I think I'm going to try to find a hood, with the vents, and without the middle scoop. I'll paint it all silverstone. No hood pins since I think I should be okay with a heavier, fiberglass hood.

How about a CF stock hood with just the middle area in CF, and the sides painted? Kinda like the Veilside hood with the beveled middle section but without the vents, and the middle area is CF while the sides are painted.

I'm not sure about other cars, but it's mostly looks for the Z... the stock hood is already pretty light.

well, I voted to keep your OEM hood... and I'm really stickin' with it... IMO, any mods should be functional AND aesthetics... or just functional... but if it's just aesthetics... then that's a big NO. Like someone else mentioned already... if anything... you kinda lose "the line". again... just my

the center completely kills it

I say no hood though, and paint your IC black. Stealth is key!

Doesn't the underhood temps on turbo Z's reach ridiculously high numbers? Is that why you were going with a vented hood?

If so I'd definitely paint it.

I'd get a carbon fiber copy of the original and paint it to match the car. But since that is not an option, keep the vents unpainted.

What are the chances of the carbon fiber hood breaking off the latch without the hood pins?

It depends on how good the hood latches to the car. I had a friend with a fiber glass hood that slammed into the windsheild on the highway. It was a pinless hood that used it's own latch. It still managed to come loose at highway speeds though.
