Thumbs up There’s a new BLUE BLINGER in town…Shawn’s new ride !!!

Just got back from Bowling green, KY after taking delivery of my new 2006 Z51 Vette on Friday at the Corvette Museum.
It’s got a 6-Speed, Z51 performance suspension, NAVI & the 3LT option package.

400 Horsepower and 400 Torque under the hood.
Needless to say it’s a freaking BLAST to drive.
Full report on the delivery to follow.

I was going to wait longer but Kerbeck was doing great deals with their winter pricing so I moved up my plans a few months.
I ordered it back in November. Got over 5,000 off.

GM’s chrome wheel option for 2006 never materialized.
Even if it did, they were planning on asking 1,995 for them.
They also want 1,400 dollars for the “Polished” wheels, but most people say they’re not worth it.
They have a cloudy surface that isn’t as nice as real chrome.

I might do the “Chrome Wheel Exchange” from West Coast Corvette.
They send you OEM GM wheels that have been chromed and then you swap your tires and send the wheels back for someone else.
It costs about 900 dollars w/shipping.
That’s why I just went with the painted ones for now.

Probably wheels….See above.
Maybe a more aggressive exhaust, but I’m not sure yet.
Tint on the back window for sure in the spring. Not sure about the sides.

Nope, never wanted a convertible.
The whole center section is removable on the coupe. So it’s almost like a vert.

Philly....I’ll be there.

By the way…. This is what it looked like yesterday afternoon.
We hit a bit of ice/snow residuals going thru the mountains of West Virginia.

That's what happens when you buy a Corvette in the middle of the winter.
It could have been worse.
I don’t really know what we would have done if a major storm hit while we were there.

Are you putting it away for winter?

Might want to give it an oil/filter change first before storing it.

M1 5w-30 with a pint of GM EOS, along with an AC Delco filter would be suggested.

I’ll drive the Subaru in the sloppy stuff, but I’ll bring the Vette out if the weather is nice and the roads are clear for a couple of days.
Otherwise it will be in the garage.

After the trip it has about 825 miles on it.
I’ll probably change the oil (Mobil1 required) when it hits 1000 or so.
It has an oil life meter and even after the long trip it’s still showing over 90% life.

Actually there is.
I put a quick coat of Z8 on the car after I washed off the salt.
The GM delivery specialist specifically said no “rub-in type” waxing for 90-days
Only spray type “quick detail” waxes can be used.
The car was built on December 15th so I have to wait until March to get out the Z2.
I guess it’s because the panels are fiberglass composite and the car can’t be “baked” after painting like a metal car.
Zaino might be OK, but I didn’t want to take a chance.
I’ll probably E-Mail Sal later this week.

Better in some ways, worse in others.
The database seems to be more updated from the latest Honda/Acura one and you’re guaranteed two free DVD upgrades in the future.
It’s actually written on the windows sticker.

It’s better because there are many more option levels and preferences to control.
Roads are different colors based on Interstate/major/local levels.
There’s no directional joystick, but you can drag your finger on the screen to move the map window around.
It instantly gives the address and time to destination where you point.
There are frequent destinations you can keep in memory like radio stations.
There’s a “Home” icon that you can easily pick off the menu at any time.

The bad things are unlike Honda/Acura, the radio is fully integrated into the screen.
If the NAV screen is up and you want to change the radio station you need to flip to that screen.
And also you can’t make major changes in the NAV system while the car is moving. You need to pull over and stop.
There are voice recognition commands you can program in, but I haven’t gotten that far yet.
I guess there are a set number of commands that you need to program the voice recognition for.
I haven’t even opened the NAV manual yet. What I know is from the demo I got at the museum and what I figured out on the drive home.
