Test drove a A4 1.8T

Wow, let me tell you what a piece of shit. The car was so slow it seemed like. I mean with the sport package it looks good, and their bose upgrade is so much better then ours. Regardless the car is slow, really slow. I was looking at leasing an Audi and trading in my CL. But i wouldn't do it unless for the 3.0, i sure in hell hope that car is faster! Other then that, some other down points, the driver seat is manual, no power, for the sport package, which is really stupid. But they due have dual AC, where the passanger can adjust his own temp. Overall there is no way i'm going for that piece of shit!

stock form, yes...slow = teh 1.8T

BUT, spend a few hundred bucks for the torque chip, and your performance has just increased nearly 25%. oh the fun you can have with that car and turbo upgrades. i would get the 1.8T over the 3.0 V6 any day of the week. save a few thousand dollars x2 and mod the shit out of it.

oh yeah...QUATTRO!

after a chip, that peice of shit puts down around 250-60 lbs of torque

with AWD handling

btw, my car has power drivers seat...u test drove a 2002 model i think.

after a 400 dollar chip, the cars performance with sports package exceeds the performance of a stock CL-S.

but yeah, stock, the power is a joke...

Audi and Quattro (it's great in the snow ) are completely overrated. We all know that. My buddy has an A4 and he admits it a piece. He has a chip and he couldn't keep up with my CL down hill in strong winds. Oh and he has vinyl (leatherette (sp) I think they call it) on the seats. The new body style is kinda nice though.

overrated?

have u sat in an audi?
have you taken the twisties in an audi with summer tires?

my seats are leather, vinyl rear...just like the CL-S seats.

a chipped 1.8t wont beat a cl-s in a straight race...the audi is much heavier...but handling, snow...and a quality interior...and u will start thinking to yourself if what you REALLY want is just STRAIGHT line performance.

sorry Amir, I don't think so,not even with a 1.1 bar chip( not to mention that a couple of hard launches with that much torque and u'll be buying a new clutch) would the A-4 keep up with the cl on the straights. however it would be close in the twisties and the a4 would have the edge on the wet/snow. Still, the a4 is a much better looking car than the CL, but i don't regret having passed it up.

If u really wanna spank the cl u'll need a stage 2+ or higher or u could race us on ice.

I've sat in many an audi. Not impressed. You have leather he has vinyl. It's a 2000 1.8t. The 03 models seem like a nice upgrade over previous years but I've taken those on twisties a few times.

I've driven a bunch of 2000-2001 1.8ts and 2.8s. Yeah they handle nice once you actually get it up to speed. I threw sways on my CL and waala! Not that the CL is a pig on the road or anything.

Snow? My CL doesn't come out of the garage. I have a truck for that. :P

The A4 isn't a bad car but pound for pound I just wouldn't compare it to the CL.

i'd rather have any A4 than my CL. The CL sucks donkey balls in the snow. I've also grown to realize going fast in a straight line really isnt everything. I'd ideally wanna get my hands on an A4 3.0 convertible... that would be hot. Wishful thinking...

I too was thinking of an A4 for my second car...drove the 03 without sport package & wasn't impressed. It is definitely a looker though...and the fit & finish exceeds our cars...but I guess I'd need to drive one with mods to really decide...

Poor car wouldn't get out of it's own way.

i should have been more specific....when i say performance i mean all around.

BTW GIAC X-chip on the A4 will take even a modded CL-S...X-chip produces around 275 torque, and requires a new clutch...its a 1.6 bar i think.

My 1.5 bar chip did quite well against a auto 330...he was about 1/4 car ahead...and i have heavy rims and 150lbs in the trunk.

btw again....handling in the the quattro with sport is not even close when compared to the cl-s.

i've owned both. i konw what i speaketh

yes you can mod an A4 as well and it will still handle better than a CL-S..

btw, 2001 A4s dont feel at all like the new ones.

not impressed with audi interior??

"Audi¹s interiors are the envy of the automotive industry thanks to their quality construction and top-notch materials, and the A4 is no exception. It¹s comfortable and graceful with real wood trim and great European-style leather seats, but American-style cup holders are disappointing."
http://www.4carreviews.com/html/2003_audi_a4.html

just one of MANY MANY MANY reviews that state that audi has the best interiors of any car companies out there.

For Yuppie Cl and amirsafdari

If you hate the CL so much, why the f.... in this world would you buy it in the first place. It is pointless that we debate with someone that hates our car, he just shows his ignorance and wannanbe a Yuppie. BTW, a Jetta VR6 will smoke an Audi 1.8t because the dam thing is a hog. Secondly, it would'nt even come close to a Cl-S 6 speed. I smoked one just this morning while going to work. Chipping one of those car will just increase HP by 20 to 25 ponies, if you begin messing with the turbo then you end up getting 30 to 40HP and its going to cost more than 1k for that mod. If it was an S4 that you were talking about, then all my respect to that car, because those twin turbos are the beast.

i don't see anyone saying they hate their CL...where are you getting that feeling? i think those that are arguing for the A4 are showing respect for it more so than bashing the CL.

true, it would take a lot of mods and $$$ for an A4 to match the speed of a stock CL...auto or 6spd. on the flipside, a highly suspension modified CL would be hard pressed to hang with a stock A4 on the twisties, snow or no snow.

besides, how many cars out there have the aftermarket following, especially for that 1.8T engine? how many cars allow you to spend $500 and increase your hp by 40 and torque by 80 with just a chip upgrade?
http://www.volksdraggin.com/a4stage.asp

far cry from the 20-25hp's you're claiming.

i still miss my old CL

http://www.amirsafdari.com/blinged/

dfv, i owned a CL-S for 2 years, and this A4 for about 6 months..

i love both cars, but my cl-s was a piece of shit, in the shop every month for warranty work, i went thru 3 trannies, not that kind of tranny and the quality was just not there for me really...

i bought it thinking it would be as reliable as my previuos Acura.

Dont underestimate the 1.8t, thats all im saying.

dfv, my Revo software gives me around 40hp, and lottts of torque...it only costs 480 dollars.

The new S4, which i have on order, is V8 340hp 4.2 litre. No more tt.

Previously I reported on the TSX (auto)(acura_cl.com) and claimed it was lacking. I WILL say that the TSX interior is easily the prettiest that I have ever seen.

Still slower than an E46 M3. Is it the weight of the V8 I wonder?

that's what APR and GIAC are for... chips!

our cars are pretty f*ckin' slow in stock form as well... that car responds much better to mods though...

just look around at some 1.8T GTIs or even the Audi TTs... they love those chips and upgraded turbos...

whta you get with the A4 is a beautiful car with a very luxurious feel and a company known for being neck and neck with BMW.

the interior is very nice and so are the seats. It's an all around luxury car with a bit of pep. With about 3-4 grand it can be a beast. whereas, with the same 3-4 grand our cars wouldn't keep up...

"wouldn't keep up" meaning on the twisties

but with a turbo upgrade and chip, downpipe, uppipe, FMIC... it'll light up a CL in straight line as well...

Audi cars' reputation far exceeds their performance - except when it comes to repairs... then they exceed all expectations.

First if all, who the fuck are u? :sqntfawk: Second of all, why would u think i hate my car u schmuck? Shut the fuck up cuz u dont know me.

I never said I hated it. how bout u try reading my post properly instead of assuming. ive had my car for 3.5 years and have no regrets buying it or intentions on ditching it any time soon. i just so happen to not be one of those ignorant and arrogant fucks who thinks their car are the best thing on the damn road. we drive a heavy FRONT wheel drive, SEMI-luxury coupe. i'm not gonna make pretend i have a 1/4 mile car that can pound on anything. i stick up for the CL when needed, but comparing it to an ALL wheel drive SEDAN, i acknowledge my car is in CERTAIN respects inferior.

I'd RATHER an Audi now at this point since my car preference have changed since my CL purchase. I wouldn't be in the market for a front-wheel drive car anymore now living in a less suburban, colder (more snow), more hilly, windier road location. Who cares if our cars can beat the quattro in a straight line? i wanna be able to TAKE a curve in the road and be able to drive in snow. granted, i'm not looking for a new car any time soon, but i am entitled to my own opinion WITHOUT being flamed.

Well, I have a 1.8T.

Yes, it is slow, but I didn't buy it for the speed. The interior is way, way nicer and cleaner than the CL. The car also has really nice lines, and looks great with the sport package. I've gotten more compliments about the A4 than I did with the CL-S, and the CL-S was PDG.

Long story short, quit hatin on the A4.

I'd MUCH rather have a 1.8T than a CLS. Way nicer stock stereo and the interior is as tight as a bull's ass. Throw a chip in it and you'll go just fine. No comparison....none.

well actually the audi 5000 incident didn't just go... the lady was stupid and hit the wrong pedal while killing her kid or something lke that. the 60 minutes program ran some "tests" and rigged their Audi 5000s to randomly accelerate stating that the Audis actually had that problem. Audi sales plummetted for a long whle.

Still, their reputation at the timewas klled... it was still a funny one liner though.(in a sick and morbid kind of way) I remember seeing old SNLs with Audi 5000 jokes

Who are you to question what he does?

Again, next time you use that kind of tone, / language, i will close the thread, and if u continue, i will have u banned. You do not own/run this forum, you have no right to tell people that thay cannot have an opinion.

all i know is i'm the one who started this thread and stated that I test drove a 2003, A4 1.8T quattro, and i'll admit that the interior was (I feel) tighter and cleaner then ours, and the stereo shitted all over our stock one. Obviously the engines do not compare, its not really fair to compare the two to each other. The main thing that car made me realize is actually what a great deal the CL type S is. He quoted me, for the a4 1.8t quattro with sport package, and cold package, and whatever other bullshit a price of like 32K. I got my CL type S with Navi and 6 spd for 32.5 after everything. So when it really comes down to it for the money the A4 1.8t just isn't worth it. Its definitely a nice car, just not a lot of car to justify a 32K price tag.

Well, Iam not the young idiotic adult and yuppie college student that you are. Secondly, I dont have to fucking shut up just because I dont know you, just how you communicate says alot about you. Third, it is just rediculous and tiring to hear people that voluntary buy the car, bitch about it and lament over their choice, you should have just researched a little bit more and decided at the beginning that the car was a piece of shit and not after you plup down the 30K. Specially, if you live in Alaska
