Test Drive Question
Test Drive Question
Well I'm 16, just got my license, and I want test drive a few cars. Will dealerships allow me to drive their cars around? Or do I have to be a certain age or have my license for minimum time?

Not likely. You can't legally enter into a contract, so don't expect a dealer to let you take out any of their cars. Also, they will not view you as a potential buyer.
I got my learner's permit at 14 years 9 months and my driver's license when I was 15. But I didn't have the money to pay my parents for insurance. I was 18 when I got my first car.. but is was brand new and mine.

If you go with a parent they usually won't have a problem.
I test drove cars with just my permit with my dad with me and the dealers didn't care.
Granted these were all used cars under 20k. They may be less willing the more costly the car is.

If the dealer thinks you are serious about buying, they will let you drive the car.. provided that you have your parent(s) there with you.
When I test drove the TSX, I had my permit and they let me take it out but my parents had to be there and the sales guy sat in the front seat with me. I think a lot has to do with the dealer.

Ehh if your used to driving a TL, an RSX will feel underpowered and much noisier in the cabin. Also an RSX vibrates more when under harsh acceleration.

i recently turned 18. today, my dad and i test drove a 350Z Roadster together. it was 1 of many test drives we've gone on, but this time, i drove it nearly all of the time. Patience, my friend.
OT, anyone feel the 350Z Rdster would be the cooler purchase? The 350Z Coupe has NO open air option..

go with a parent and you'll be fine. i test drove a Z28 when I was 17 with my brother who was 28, they didn't have a problem with it. and yet, now that i'm 26, i go to test drive a GTO with
and i get denied... go figure

Ok I am 17 now and have been doing this sense i was 16. I just think its fun to test drive cars that I cant afford. I have driven a volvo s60R, S4, G35, R32, mini cooper type-s, tl-s, new eclipse Gt, z28, Sti, mustang Gt, and 540i, and some others of lesser value. All by my self too or with friends, no one older than me went with. All of those brand new except the tl-s, R32, z28, s2000 and the 540i. Also with my grandpa I got to test the E55, M45 and G430. The S4 was the best one of them all in my opinion just because of the guy who went with us. It was insane. The guy took it first and did some crazy shit. I thought I was gonna die for real. but you just have to go in there and be like i came to look at so and so. Look at it for a couple of min and be like can we take it for a drive, most of the time I get the test drive and give them my number and go. I still have had trouble driving the 350z though which i really want to drive. but it all depends on the car you come up in and how you present yourself, I have a black Tl-s and that looks like a nice car, also before I had this car I would take my grandpas car a E430. I think it all matters on what you drive and how you are dressed (present your self well).

edit: i'm actually going to test drive the eclipse gt after work today. i didn't realize it (because i didn't do it on purpose), but my mom was with me both times that i've test driven cars (the gt, then the gtp)... this time i'm going by myself. i don't think it should be a problem though. it's all about whether they believe you are a potential buyer, and how you carry yourself.
don't ask all politely for a test drive... "um.. can i please.. maybe.. test drive it.."
naw, ask like you're kind of telling him. "sounds good, lets test it out" or something like that. confidence man. put it this way.. would you let someone who didn't sound confident drive your vehicle? heck no. i would only let someone i knew could drive, and was confident (i.e. "don't worry, i can handle your car..").
