Technical question regarding aftermarket wheels w/ stock tires

Hey guys,

I will be placing an order for TSW Nurburgrings Bronze 18". http://www.wheelsnext.com/images/whe...teBronze_2.jpg

The stock RWD IS250 tires are 225/40F, 255/40R

Here are the sizes for the TSWs: (preferred in bold)

18x7.5 - 114.3 bolt - Offset: 45
18x8.0 - 114.3 bolt - Offset: 35 and 20
18x8.5 - 114.3 bolt - Offset: 45 and 20
18x9 - 114.3 bolt - Offset: 63 and 32
18x9.5 - 114.3 bolt - Offset: 40

What should I order? I am dropped on tein s springs, and would like to avoid any fender modding.

Would like to go moderately staggered, as long as the tires will not get warped, and could be put back on the stock rims without being suspect. the stock bridgestones have a very defined ridegline along the edge of the front wheels (see upper two wheels in pic below), so I am not positive if these could be stretched for wider wheels.

do you think ill have an issue covering a 9.5" rear tire with a 255/40 tire?? what do you suggest out of the above options?

Thanks!

I don't know much about the IS so I can't offer advice on what sizes would work best for your configuration.

Have you poked around the IS forums to see what other members are running in staggered setups and aftermarket wheels?

yup. but i cant forget my aziners too!

I guess a global question, regardless of the vehicle, is if you guys think a 255/40 tire would be able to cover a 9.5" width wheel.

Here is a good tool I've used to determine this sort of information:

http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp

there are other tools that will also calculate how much your speedo will be off because of the change in tire size like this one:

http://www.kouki.co.uk/utilities/vis...ize-calculator

And make sure you check the old wheel for it's width. That will give you a starting point.

Yup... no problem. For 255, you can even fit on a 10" wide wheel if you wanted to. 255 should be a minor stretch for 9.5"

Same with 225 on a 8.5" which is what I'm running

Offsets seem kinda high for those wheels though... but they should fit fine. They'll just sit in a bit...

OP isn't changing the tire size was was asking if a 225/40 tire can fit on a 9.5 inch rim or if that's too much of a stretch.

I think it depends on the tire. Probably should contact the tire's manufacture and ask them.

The link to the wheels is broken. However, I love the Nurburgrings. I want to put them on my RL when I get the $$$. Post pics when they are on.

Of the wheel choices, I'd say

18x8.0 - 114.3 bolt - Offset: 35
18x9 - 114.3 bolt - Offset: 32

would look best

It does depend on tire. Kinda hard to see, but looks like it's the Bridgestone Turanza EL400 and going by what tirerack says, the 255/40 tire has a rim width range of 8.5"-10"

Maybe I missed it, but what's the OEM IS250 wheel offset?

18x8 +45 F
18x8.5 +50 R

After doing some checking,

18x8.0 - 114.3 bolt - Offset: 35
18x9 - 114.3 bolt - Offset: 32

will look pretty similar to

18x8.5 - 114.3 bolt - Offset: 45
18x9.5 - 114.3 bolt - Offset: 40

as far as the amount of flushness/how much they'll stick out

Front:

18x8 +35 will give you 6mm less of inner clearance and stick out 6mm more vs stock
18x8.5 +45 will give you 10mm more inner clearance and stick out 10 mm more vs stock

Rear:

18x9 +32 will give you 3mm less clearance and stick out 23mm more vs stock
18x9.5 +40 will give you 12mm more clearance and stick out 24mm more vs stock

you will not be flush with those offsets, at least with the front. If you want close to flush the offsets that would work with that 18x8.5 +35 or +30 with the tire i mention below. And for the rear a 18x8.5+35 will get you pretty flush, also using the tire i mention below.

for tires in that size width rim i'd go with 235or245/40/18 and 275/35/18 if you want some sidewall. I run a 235/35/19 and a 275/30/19 with the same wheel widths that you are looking at. I do not rub but i am on an f-sport drop.

the 18x8 and 18x9 width rim might also be an option if you want to be flush, and put the same tire width i mention above.

stock rims on your IS is 18x8 and 18x8.5, using the stock tires might be a little bit of a stretch on the wider rims. however if your going with the 18x8 and18x9 they might work out pretty good. i personally would go wider with the tires to get an nice aggressive look.

Those were the wheels I was considering as the front runner if I went aftermarket. For the price you can't touch another wheel that looks as nice and is as light weight. Great choice! Did you go with the bronze?

hell yeah i got bronze, thats how i narrowed it down

the 5zigens (bronze) were a close second. but these TSWs really look and feel like they are high end wheels. very happy with the price

Nice wheel and color choice.

Wheels look really nice.

What size did you go with, 18x8 / 35 F and 18x9.5 / 40 R ???

Out of curiosity, what's the weight on these?
