Talk to me about an 01-02 Merc CLK 55

I'd like to drive one before my BMW M6 Arrives..... Always wanted one and bidded on this CLK 55, looks clean.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ABCA%3AUS%3A11

Preference would be a 2002 with lower miles and NAVI installed.

Any bad reports out there

One of my good friends had one of those new in 00 or 01, he went to Vegas or LA for a week and left it with me to car sit it. I was told I could drive it all I wanted, amazing car - probably over priced new - but still a great automatic to drive. It constantly put a smile on my face and really turned heads, it has a very nice V8 exhaust rumble when WOT, it was as comfortable to drive hard as it was to drive like an old lady. Probably one of the most well balanced car's I've driven - not balance as in weight ratio, but rather how it can handle like a sports car and yet ride like a luxury car. Another friend had a year older CLK430 AMG and the 55 owned it!

Considering that car was damn near $80k new it seems that price is a steal! My friend had a bit of a lead foot and never got more then 7k miles on a set of rear tires - but tires are cheap!

I actually plan on test driving a blk/blk 05 clk 55 myself. been in one a couple of times, but never actually driven one. My only gripe thus far on the car is the crappy nav system. ( I believe it's cd based)

While I do not have any experience with driving one, I can tell you that from what I've heard they are excellent vehicles. I think what is great about AMG vehicles is that they are an excellent balance between comfort and sport--they're an hard-core performance vehicle that can be driven everyday. Creating this perfect balance is a hard thing to do, which may explain why the AMG concept has been so successful.

So naturally the vehicle is going to be an excellent drive, offer incredible performance, along with great style and luxury. BUT (I know this is beating a dead horse) I think it's essential that you go into the purchase expecting *some* problems/quirks/malfunctions. I won't go on and on about Japanese vehicles being more reliable (blah blah blah), because I understand the compromise here, and would be willing to "deal with it".

I'd recommend checking out www.mbworld.org just for added measure and to know what to expect. They're a great community and will be very helpful with letting you know about some of the typical W208 problem areas.

Good luck on the purchase--I agree with everyone saying that it looks like an excellent buy. It really is a timeless model.

Looks like a good deal although the interior doesn't impress me much.

Sure is a nice car, just doesn't get me excited very much. That price seems like a steal, though.

What are those input/output looking things next to the seat belt buckles?

Seems like the going rate for that car and mileage.

Im sure auction price is lower though.

Your right, but there seems to be no shortage of CLK55s for sale, which tells me if i don't win this one, there are plenty more out there.

Like i said i would prefare a 02-CLK55 Sliver Navi with low miles.

not a huge fan of mercedes in general but i drove my friends 01 clk55. god damn that car is fast. it pulls hard and feels really solid at high speeds. once you get used to mbz maintenance costs you will enjoy the car.
