SUV ideas that have 3rd row seating, under $50k

Suggestions?

My brother's RX300 with 140k miles is finally giving him issues here and there. He doesnt want anything too much bigger than the RX though.

MDX was my first choice. What else is there?

Slightly used is ok as well .

The new ones are only about 18" longer... but compared to an RX, they are pretty big. My sister-in-law just got an X5 (used) and it's pretty nice, but not sure of their reliability.

MDX. My vote might be biaised because I had one, but I can only recommend it. Capable in bad weather and reliable. It has more up and go than most of it's competitors as well...

We drove a Mazda CX9 and it was great. It's a bigger SUV, but it doesn't feel like it is. Check it out and I think you'll be surprised. The GMC Arcadia is really nice too, but again on the bigger side.

We are extremely happy with our Buick Enclave! Very nice vehicle indeed. We've had it for 1 month and already have about 2100 miles.

I had an '07 MDX as a loaner this weekend. Personally, I didn't like it but that could be because I don't like SUV's and it didn't feel sporty at all. The suspension on it was very sloshy IMO. Power output was good for the size vehicle it is, but with the front biased AWD it takes even more away from wanting a sporty feel. I figured it was front-biased because the information panel on the gauge cluster has an SH-AWD screen that reports where power is being delivered, and a large majority of the time it was on the front two wheels. The only times it wasn't on the front was when I was flooring it, or gunning it around a turn and even then it wasn't really shifting power to the rear, it would shift power to the right or left wheels depending on which way I was turning.

The interior is alright, I'm not a fan of the sloping center console and the high dash mounted LCD was a pain in the ass to see when the sun was on it. And that front grille is The instrument cluster arrangement I found to be annoying, after adjusting it to be where I wanted it, I found that it was difficult to see the temperature and fuel gauges depending on how you were sitting and whether you were driving with one hand. They should have put the fuel/temp gauge in a half semi-circle at the base of the gauge cluster between the speedo and teh tach and it would have solved that issue.

Also, for an SUV, the height of the rear seemed a lot higher than I expected. probably would make loading stuff into the suv a little more difficult.

MDX

And for those who say the MDX has sloppy handling, try the sport package.

They have a sport package for the MDX? Wait? Acura has options for their cars?

I didn't even know they offered a "Sport Package" The version I drove must have been the base model.

Acura offering options is new to me!

The SUV is really for his wife so theres real no need for a sport package or an suv that handles really well.

Hell they loved their rx300 if that tells you anything. Holy snoooooze.

You think you can convince him to get a Q7 3.6l? The starting price of that one is $42.5 compared to the starting price of the MDX at $40,195

Q7 looks so much nicer than the MDX.

IMO, the "base" MDX handles quite well for a mostly FWD-biased 4500 pound vehicle.

For a "base" consumer then it would meet their needs just fine.

They drive their cars till the wheels fall off. So if the Audi has issues then i'll get the beating for recommending it.

Guess I need to read up on how well the Q7 is holding up.

^^^ I understand. The MDX would be the logical choice for quality and included features.

Is the third row of seats the reason why you are leaving out the RDX?

Yep.

That would have been perfect if it had a 3rd row.

Ya know, as much as we all bash Acura/honda they still make cars people want.

There's no denying they aren't hitting the mainstream market, that is where the problem lies for us enthusiasts. They are no longer a manufactuer that is catering to our breed of owner. Hence why so many of us truly do complain. And the direction they are going isn't the direction we would LIKE to see them go. we all envisioned an agressively sporty acura to dominate the market, but they don't know what they are.

Honda Pilot. It's not nearly as upscale as the others, but we own an 05 and love it. It's a cavern inside and very wide. Top end wouldn't break $35 or $36K.

I driven a few Pilots and none seemed to be handle road noise well.

Plus they all rattled near the rear. Drove me nuts.
