suicide doors

this is probably a dumb question for you mod gurus out there.....

why are suicide doors so rare? I don't think they are that expensive. Lambo doors may be expensive, but suicide doors are just hinges at C pillars instead of B.

They're not rare. It's 2009 that might be why you don't see many.

aftermarket bling makes more sense to have door swing upwards. spend the $$, you want more attention reward. that simple.

your right. me being a volunteer firefighter/EMT. I've cut up my fair share of crashed cars. I won't order or own a "extended cab truck" with the back door than hinges backwards. the "full doors" or double cabs are okay. but those cab and halfs i've seen how they look after a hard hit. their totalled.

today's spoon-fed car enthusiasts can go online and buy a bolt on vertical door kit from a number of sites, and be up and running in a few hours.

suicide doors are actually labor intensive, and you actually have to cut and weld...making them expensive to the average owner.

I had one of these bad boys pass me by the other day on my commute home from work.

The first thing I noticed (besides it being about 2' taller than my Accord) was the suicide doors. It would be interesting to see what some modern sedans would look like with them.

i'm hoping the new S60 doesn't come with suicide doors.

How is this any less safe than conventional doors?

I'm referring to 4 door or 2 door/half door cars without a B pillar in particular for side impact standards. In which case the doors themselves are reinforced, like the Honda Element.

Rolls Royce of course still has the B pillar. The rear door opens the way it does because its more dignified, much like coaches of the past.

In addition, those doors are heavily reinforced and heavy. That negates the bad traits most suicide door setups have, that is they're too light (not providing enough safety) and the air pressure changes that in the past, opened unlocked rear doors at high speeds, especially during cornering.

Guess what. I saw one yesterday! It's not a car. It's a piece of art! I always wonder how people can generate that kind of income.

are the doors like the one on the element really considered suicide doors?

I thought the whole point was that they'd swing open if you opened them up on the freeway. Having to open the front door first kinda negate that.

I like the suicide doors on the RR drophead

it's just awkward cause you gotta open the doors either with your left hand. or use your right hand and pull them to your left.

for me anyway >.>
