stock is350 dynojet dyno

pretty much explains the 1/4 mile times we've seen!

hawt, considering the g35 coupe(298horese 6mt) puts down 245 to the wheels. Nissan definitely overrates its engines. good to see lexus underrating their's.

306 hp at the crank
257 hp at the wheels

That's 16% drivetrain loss. It's not underrated. Underrated would be like if it came out to 5%, like on the Ford GT, which is considered mechanically impossible, pretty much.

Regardless, it's a decent figure. It's not disappointing, but it's nothing that we should be surprised by, either.

Underrated is like my old 330ci. I dynoed it at 205hp at the wheels.

Very nice though.

yeah, but its an automatic tranny. 16% for a manual would be just right, but for an auto? the engine has to be producing about 320hp in actuallity.

Autos typically lose 18-20 percent thru the drivetrain. That engine is about 10-14 hp under-rated.

not true, they use a new 6spd auto which is more efficient, therefore producing 257whp

impressive stats anyways

No, Lexus has already converted to the J2723 rating system. And seeing as how the purpose of the system was precisely to prevent playing with numbers, I doubt it.

Thus, it just means they built an efficient automatic transmission.

You can still under-rate cars using the new SAE ratings. Look at the LS7 for example.

Look at the LS7 for what? The vette doctors in LI, NY has one that has been on the Dynojet it doesnt seem to be underated much.

Look at the LS7 for a perfect example of an engine that's under-rated using the new SAE guidelines. LG Motorsports's Z06 put down 443, which means that the Z06 is under-rated roughly 20hp.

In all fairness to the G35, its 298hp may be overrated but it still able to post a 14.4sec ET in its slowest iteration (G35X..which only comes 5AT). That said, it looks like the IS350 is clearly the fastest Japanese-make sedan to ever reach American shores. Toyota definitely took the gloves off with the 2GR-FSE motor.

Sidenote: I'm pretty eager to see the performance of the 2007 Toyota Camry V6 with its 268hp version of this motor.

Wow...that IS is making great power! Very strong torque, too. My G coupe, also an auto, put nothing down like that. Even modded so far, it's still almost 20hp and 20tq short of that Lexus...

That being said, that dyno is a bit higher than I have seen. Most are in the 245hp/225tq SAE corrected range...

I wish I had had time to get my headers in as soon as possible after seeing this!

might wanna get a 50 shot to go with those headers, just in case. they've already run a 13.6 bone stock on clublexus (60'= 2.1).

The one regular at OSW is only putting down 14.0xx...I haven't seen others at the track yet. I was running with one the other night, nothing violent or stupid and certainly on the highway, but he wasn't leaving me.

Besides, no NOS. I'm doing the headers, in a month or two an exhaust (should be close to 250hp/240tq, some new, sticky tires and then I'll leave it until my bonus next Christmas and go FI. The Vortech s/c kit will put down close to 400hp to the wheels with my other mods and it will be with little effort. Not bad for another $7k and all in the sleeper package...

Good find, becasue the Vette Doctor guys dynoed about 15 less than that. Weird. I guess the same car can dyno differently on different machines.

I dont read too much into 60' times as it's only a measure of how much traction is being applied. My 02 Maxima 4AT posted 2.1XX 60' times on a few occassions (stock) but never posted a 1/4 mile time better than 14.7 seconds (read: adequate not quick).

And when brand new and stock, my G posted a 2.6xx 60' and ran 14.8 on it's only two passes...Like F says, means little except traction...

That dyno does seem a bit high. My G (lightly modded) has put down anywhere from 241-255 (the 255 was ona dynojet). Anyway, it's a nice dyno and they are quick. I've seen a couple high 13 1/4 miles from them already.
